The Town of Goderich’s updated Animal Control By-law and Zoning By-law provisions for backyard hens take effect September 3, 2026.
Here’s what residents need to know:
• A maximum of four (4) hens are permitted per property
• Roosters are not permitted
• Hen enclosures and run areas must be at least 1.5 metres from any lot line and must not exceed 15 square metres
• Enclosures and surrounding areas must be kept in a clean and sanitary condition
• The sale of eggs or other hen by-products is not permitted
