Based on Greg Malone’s best-selling book, “Don’t Tell The Newfoundlanders” tells the true story
of Newfoundland’s less-than-constitutional confederation with Canada in 1949.

ST. JOHN’S NL, Canada, September 2, 2026 – Produced in association with Blue Pinion Films, the feature-length documentary, “Don’t Tell The Newfoundlanders”, tells the true story of
Newfoundland’s less-than-constitutional confederation with Canada in 1949.
Screening across the province this September, the documentary features rare and never-before-seen archival film footage, as well as interviews with Newfoundland historian, John Fitzgerald, celebrated author, Bernice Morgan and renowned political satirist, Rick Mercer. The film also features recorded audio of the debates and arguments between Joey Smallwood, Peter Cashin and others at the National Convention leading up to Confederation.
