This play may challenge you. It may frustrate you.

It may move you. It may spark a conversation you didn’t expect to have.

That’s the point.

Theatre isn’t meant to be passive. It’s meant to provoke thought.

Meet the cast. These are your neighbours. Your coworkers. Your friends.

And on March 30th, they step into complex, emotionally demanding roles with honesty and bravery.

That’s the magic of community theatre: ordinary people doing extraordinary work.

Polarization is loud.

Nuance is quiet.

Love leans into nuance.

It humanizes everyone. It resists easy villains. It asks audiences to sit in discomfort instead of rushing to judgment.

This is theatre for grown-ups.

Tickets available at www.artsandculturecentre.com/gander/

Community theatre is courage. Actors with day jobs. Directors giving their evenings.
Volunteers building sets after work.

Why?

Because stories matter. Because art matters. Because Gander deserves ambitious theatre.

Thank you for supporting local storytelling.

Rehearsals this week are about precision.

Pauses. Silences. Eye contact. Breath.

In a play this intimate, the smallest shift carries weight.

Next Monday, you’ll see the finished work. But right now, it’s being built moment by moment.

What if two people remember the same relationship differently?

Who is right? Who decides? Does intent matter? Does impact?

Love doesn’t give you answers. It gives you people.

And it trusts you to wrestle with the rest.

For over 70 years, The Avion Players have been telling stories in Gander — stories that entertain, challenge, and connect us.

Community theatre matters because it belongs to the community.

On March 30th, we continue that tradition at the Joseph R. Smallwood Arts and Culture Centre

In 10 days, the curtain rises on Love by Kate Cortesi.

This is not a courtroom drama.

It’s not a morality play.

It’s a story about memory, power, and the uncomfortable space between certainty and doubt.

March 30th.

One stage.

One conversation we all need to have.

See you in Labrador Easter Week!

Meet the group: The Avion Players

Avion Players of Gander are a community theatre group that was founded by Barbara Barrett in 1953. Since then, Avion Players has been a dynamic contributor to the artistic community of Gander as well as providing a cultural and entertaining element to the community and the surrounding area.

For the past number of years we have operated out of the Arts and Culture Centre in Gander.

Each year from its beginning, Avion mounts up to four productions a year with at least two of those being full-length plays.

All are welcome at Avion. Some of us have formal theatre training but others have learned their craft from experience with the company. We have fostered those interested in sound, lights, directing, stage managing and, of course, acting.

We have enjoyed the appreciation of the people of Gander as they look forward to our next show and support us in our fundraising efforts. Fundraising allows us to cover the costs of our productions so that we can keep ticket prices low so that theatre is accessible to everyone.

Every year we attend the Newfoundland Drama Festival where we can showcase our talents and appreciate and learn from other drama groups. Avion Players are a building block in the Newfoundland and Labrador arts community.

Two weeks from tonight.

On March 30, the Avion Players bring Love by Kate Cortesi to the stage at the Joseph R. Smallwood Arts and Culture Centre.

This is the kind of theatre that lingers. That sparks debate on the drive home. That refuses easy answers.

If you’ve been meaning to get tickets — this is the moment.
