Canada started the Second World War with a navy so small it could fit into one modern task group.
Then the Atlantic turned into a brutal supply war, and Canada became one of the convoy system’s anchors.
From Halifax and St. John’s, ships, sailors, aircrews and merchant mariners helped keep Britain alive, hunted U-boats, and moved the men and machines that made D-Day possible.
The victory came at a staggering cost, with thousands of Canadians lost at sea in a battle that lasted nearly the entire war.
Canada didn’t just cross the Atlantic.
It helped hold it.
