Less than a week left to participate in the public consultation on whether or not a proposed pipeline to BC’s South Coast should be designated a "Project of National Interest." Next Friday, Sept. 18, is the deadline.

A new pipeline would enable more fossil fuel pollution, greatly increase oil tanker traffic past Gabriola, and place endangered Southern Resident Orcas at even greater risk.

Oil companies and their wealthy owners would benefit, while communities and taxpayers would carry the environmental and financial risks.

Designating this pipeline a "Project of National Interest" would give it greater federal priority, and could help fast-track a major fossil fuel project through BC.

The federal government is accepting comments until Friday, Sept-18, on what is at stake, and what kind of future you want to build.

There are other choices than oil. Canada can invest those billions in affordable clean electricity, renewable energy, heat pumps, energy-efficient buildings, public transit and clean manufacturing. These investments can lower energy costs, create lasting jobs and protect the places we love.

To comment on designating the pipeline a "Project of National Interest," email your comments by next Friday to the Major Projects Office at: [email protected]

If this propety is designated I-4 and industry is permitted to remove the forest and pollute the air and water, any options for the future will be foreclosed. Who will want to walk or live there, or raise a family or start a safe, sustainable business nearby? We have another chance to be heard.
