🌟 A Transformational Investment in Fox Creek’s Future 🌟

The Town of Fox Creek is incredibly proud to unveil plans for a new Inclusive Playground at Lions Park, connected directly to the existing Splash Park, with construction anticipated to begin in 2027.

This exciting project represents a significant investment in the future of our community and reflects our commitment to creating recreational spaces that are accessible, inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

Through the leadership and commitment of Town Council and Administration, together with the dedication of the Fox Creek for the Children Fundraising Society and the Lions Club, this long-standing vision is becoming a reality.

We are incredibly grateful for the generous support that has helped make this project possible, including grant funding through the Alberta Recycling Management Authority, as well as contributions, sponsorships and partnerships from industry, local businesses and our community. Pembina Pipeline, CNRL, D&D Well Services and Alberta Safety Control are among the generous supporters who have helped move this incredible project forward.

Bringing a project of this scale to life truly takes a community. Every contribution, partnership and show of support is an investment not only in this project, but in Fox Creek and the generations of families who will enjoy it for years to come.

Thoughtfully designed so children of all abilities can play, explore and experience the park together, the new Inclusive Playground will feature:

♿ Wheelchair-accessible play components
🎨 Sensory play opportunities
🛝 Inclusive swings
☀️ Shade structures
🚶 Accessible pathways and surfacing made from recycled tires
🚻 Change rooms
💦 Direct connection to the Splash Park
✨ And so much more!

The first steps toward this exciting transformation are already underway as the Lions Park is now closed to the public as the existing playground structures are removed and the site is prepared for its next chapter. We ask residents to please respect all closures and signage while this work is underway.

When complete, Lions Park and the Splash Park will come together as an inclusive recreational destination for children, families, residents and visitors of all abilities.

We cannot wait to watch this incredible project take shape and break ground in 2027!

Together, we are creating more than a playground. We are building a place where everyone belongs.❤

Open for Business Friday: Alberta Safety Control

In 1986, at just 19 years old, owner Steve Bonertz arrived in Fox Creek looking for a job, with little more than determination and hope. He found a pay phone, opened the phone book and started calling every number listed in black until someone said yes. That call led to a job with Marnevic Construction, and he started work that very same day.

Steve wasn’t the only one getting his start around that time. Brent Cadrain, Dale Bentley and several others began their careers within months of each other, with many going on to become proud supporters of Fox Creek.

After Marnevic, Steve spent five years working for Amoco at Kaybob, building the foundation for his future. He eventually left Fox Creek for a short time before returning with his wife and children, and Fox Creek has been home ever since.

On August 30, 2017, after a simple conversation wit Paul Racine about buying an oilfield business, Alberta Safety Control was born.

Today, Alberta Safety Control operates in Fox Creek and Calgary, with more than 40 trucks and approximately 55 employees. Services include industrial medics, air trailer services, traffic control, pilot truck services, the Safety Supply Store in Fox Creek and Signs by ASC.

The company continues to adapt to meet the needs of the community. Following the closure of NAPA in Fox Creek, the Safety Supply Store expanded to include batteries and oil. Alberta Safety Control also provides rentals and repairs for four-head gas monitors, with plans to expand into flow testing and calibration services for Scott and MSA breathing-air packs.

For Steve, growing a business is about more than trucks, equipment and services. He shares that business ownership comes with challenges every day. Managing people, finances, equipment and customer expectations can be exciting, stressful, rewarding and heartbreaking—sometimes all in the same day. But seeing his employees build careers and knowing they are creating opportunities in the community makes it worthwhile. That commitment is reflected in the company’s focus on hiring locally whenever possible, providing fair wages and creating opportunities for both men and women.

Alberta Safety Control isn’t finished growing yet. Future plans include a new Edmonton office, expansion of its medic division and store services, with a goal of growing to more than 100 employees over the next two years.

As the company expands, its roots remain firmly planted in Fox Creek.

“Most importantly, we love Fox Creek. This community gave me my start when I was a penniless 19-year-old looking for a chance. Everything I’ve accomplished began with one phone call from a pay phone in this town. That’s why we’re committed to investing here, creating jobs here and growing our business to better serve the people who live and work here. Thank you, Fox Creek. The best is yet to come.”

Alberta Safety Control is located at 19 1Ave Fox Creek, AB. The can also be contacted via their website www.albertasafetycontrol.com , 780-622-9330 and on Facebook Alberta Safety Control

Thank you, Alberta Safety Control, for continuing to invest in Fox Creek, creating local opportunities and being part of our business community.

Throwback Thursday: Fox Creek Hospital: Happy 40th Anniversary🎉

This week, we’re looking back at a facility that has played an important role in Fox Creek for the last 4 decades—the Fox Creek Hospital.

By the late 1970s, it had become clear that the community’s existing Emergency Care Centre could no longer accommodate the level of care Fox Creek needed. Residents rallied in support of having a hospital of their own, demonstrating to the Government of Alberta just how important local health care was to the growing community.

In the spring of 1980, approval was given for a new 10-bed hospital in Fox Creek. Construction began in August 1981, and on this day- September 10, 1982, the Fox Creek Hospital officially opened its doors with a ceremony involving the entire community.

The hospital quickly became an important part of life in Fox Creek. From 1987 to 1989, the community had two resident physicians and offered low-risk obstetrical care, allowing many local families to welcome their babies right here in Fox Creek. Physiotherapy services were also introduced in 1987 and proved to be an immediate success.

The hospital served families, children, local workers and those requiring emergency treatment following motor vehicle accidents and workplace injuries—allowing residents to receive care close to home rather than travelling to neighboring communities.

In 1986, the Fox Creek Hospital reached another impressive milestone when it received a two-year accreditation from the Canadian Council on Hospital Accreditation. It was the first 10-bed prototype hospital to apply for accreditation.

Local organizations, businesses, families and individuals donated countless hours and dollars toward equipment and improved services. The Fox Creek Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Kinsmen Club of Fox Creek and Fox Creek Ladies Club were among the many groups recognized for their contributions to the hospitals successes.

40 years later, the story of the Fox Creek Hospital is a great example of what this community has always been capable of when people come together for something they believe in.

Do you remember the hospital opening in 1982? Were you-or one of your children-born at the Fox Creek Hospital? We’d love to hear your stories in the comments!
