Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo Volunteers are asked to commit for at least one year so these partnerships can create life‑changing experiences for both mentor and mentee.

Igniting the power of young people in Wood Buffalo through mentorship. 💙 Non-profit that offer free programs for ages 6-18, including One-on-One, Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring. Our Bigs and Littles mentoring program pairs youth of all genders with caring Bigs who provide guidance, friendship, and a safe space to share the ups and

downs of growing up; through regular outings and weekly time together (about two hours), Bigs and Littles build meaningful relationships grounded in trust, shared interests, and mutual respect, supported throughout by our dedicated caseworkers, and engage in activities like biking, playing sports, crafting, watching movies, or simply enjoying each other’s company. In addition to our One-on-One Mentoring, we offer several free group programs, including Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle Mentoring, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring.

We want to send a big thank you to our Board of Directors for the time, care, and steady guidance they’ve given our agency this year. Their commitment makes a real difference for the young people and families we serve, and we’re grateful for everything they bring to the table.

Monica has been a huge support to our organization over the years, offering steady leadership and a level of dedication that has shaped the strength of our agency. ConocoPhillips has been a steady and deeply valued partner to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo for more than a decade. Their commitment reaches far beyond our Corporate Mentorship Program. They have stood with us in Anzac through Full Circle Mentoring, supported In‑School Mentoring in Fort McKay, and helped bring community joy to the annual Duck Race.

Their involvement dates all the way back to 2011, and throughout these many years they have shown what long‑term community partnership truly looks like. Because of their support, young people across the region have had access to safe spaces, cultural connection, trusted mentors, and experiences that spark confidence and belonging.

We are grateful for every hour, every contribution, and every moment they have invested in the youth of Wood Buffalo. Thank you, ConocoPhillips, for continuing to walk alongside us and for the meaningful work you help make possible in our region.

June is Indigenous History Month, a time to honor the stories, teachings, and traditions that shape our region.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo, we celebrate this month through our Full Circle Mentoring Program, an inclusive, culture-based program that welcomes all children and youth to learn, connect, and grow together. 🪶

Full Circle supports Indigenous youth in building pride in their identity, while also creating meaningful opportunities for non-Indigenous youth to learn about Indigenous traditions in a respectful and engaging way. Since 2009, thousands of young people have taken part in this program, finding connection, confidence, and community.

On the first day of Pride month, we’re celebrating with something close to our hearts.

Two months ago, we launched PRISM, our newest mentoring program created in partnership with Wood Buffalo Pride. PRISM connects 2SLGBTQIA+ young people with adult mentors who share their identity for one on one and group mentoring. These matches build supportive, empowering friendships through regular outings and shared experiences.

The 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Wood Buffalo has a long history of creating informal mentoring networks to survive and thrive. Even with the progress made, many young people still face barriers. Research shows that formal mentoring is a powerful protective factor as youth grow into their sense of self, and PRISM was built to meet that need with care and intention ❤️
