Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo Volunteers are asked to commit for at least one year so these partnerships can create life‑changing experiences for both mentor and mentee.

Igniting the power of young people in Wood Buffalo through mentorship. 💙 Non-profit offering free programs for ages 6-18, including One-on-One, Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring. Our Bigs and Littles mentoring program pairs youth of all genders with caring Bigs who provide guidance, friendship, and a safe space to share the ups and downs of growing up; through regular outings and weekly time together (about two hours), Bigs and Littles build meaningful relationships grounded in trust, shared interests, and mutual respect, supported throughout by our dedicated caseworkers, and engage in activities like biking, playing sports, crafting, watching movies, or simply enjoying each other’s company. In addition to our One-on-One Mentoring, we offer several free group programs, including Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle Mentoring, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring.

Match Monday Spotlight: A 1:1 match gives young people a steady, supportive relationship with a mentor who shows up just for them. It’s a space where confidence grows, goals feel possible, and small moments turn into big steps forward.
Mentors often say they learn just as much; gaining perspective, connection, and the joy of watching a young person thrive.

One match, one relationship, and a meaningful impact for both.

Some people come into your life for a reason, and at the time you may never understand the impact they will have on you. Kenzie was blessed to join the Big Brothers Big Sisters program as a Little many years ago. She has had a few Big Sisters over the years, and the relationships that she has made will last forever!
Julie is one of these mentors that Kenzie has built a lifelong friendship with. She is blessed to have Julie in her corner, always. We are so grateful for her, and her impact on Kenzie has been tremendous!
Kenzie travelled to Rocky Harbour this summer and spent a week in Julie’s hometown - where they explored the area. She had a blast, and is already asking if she can go back next summer! Thank you so much Julie for everything that you have done and continue to do for Kenzie! We all appreciate you more than you know! ❤️

Mentorship Monday Facilitator Spotlight: Sandi has been a dedicated Full Circle facilitator for years, and her impact continues to shine through every young person she teaches. She carries Indigenous teachings with care, patience, and a deep sense of responsibility, creating a space where youth feel safe to learn, ask questions, and connect with culture in a meaningful way.

Her sessions are filled with storytelling, laughter, gentle guidance, and the kind of wisdom that stays with you long after the day is done. Sandi teaches in a way that feels welcoming and grounded, helping youth understand not just the teachings themselves, but the values, history, and community behind them.

Full Circle is stronger because of her. She brings heart, knowledge, and a steady presence that helps young people build pride in who they are and where they come from. We are grateful for the time, care, and love she pours into every lesson.

Fun Fact Friday: In 2025, we delivered 510 mentoring sessions across the RMWB, that’s hundreds of moments where kids were supported, encouraged, and able to show up as themselves.

How many young people do you think we reached through all those sessions?
