The big day approaches with final voting day being tomorrow, Oct 18th. Regardless of who you support, I encourage everyone who is eligible to take part in democratic process, by making time to vote.

CURRENT PLATFORM ISSUES

1. LONG TERM SAFETY & FINAL SOLUTIONS to BURM and OTHER FLOOD / FIRE MITIGATION ISSUES. WILL THIS RESOLVE LONG TERM INSURANCE ISSUES HOMEOWNERS & BUSINESSES ARE FACING?

2. PROPOSE A BY-PASS/RING ROAD THROUGH AND AROUND CITY TO ACCOMMODATE THE FLOW OF DANGEROUS MATERIALS & LARGE EQUIPEMENT AS WELL AS ALTERNATIVE ROUTE FOR TRAFFIC DURING EMERGENCIES AND/OR DISASTERS. ARE WE BETTER PREPARED THIS TIME FOR ANOTHER DISASTER?

3. UNDERSTANDING & ACCOUNTABILITY FOR MANY OF THE QUESTIONABLE ISSUES & EXPENSIVE PROJECTS RELATED TO DEVELOPMENT OF THE RECENTLY AQUIRED AND VACANT AREAS OF THE DOWNTOWN. IS COUNCIL SIMPLY RUBBER STAMPING THE SUGGESTIONS OF MANAGEMENT IGNORING PUBLIC CONSULTATION CONTINUING TO WASTE MONEY ON UNPOLULAR, UNUSED, and REDICULOUS PROJECTS?

4. CONSIDER AN EFFECTIVE TRANSITION AWAY FROM CAMP ACCOMODATION TO ALIEVE THE INCREASING STRESS ON LOCAL RENTAL MARKET & VACANCY RATE. IS WOOD BUFFALO HOUSING UNFAIRLY COMPETING WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR AT THE COST OF TAXPAYERS DOLLARS?

5. COVID 19 / VAXX PASSPORT RESTRICTIONS. ARE WE PROPERLY WEIGHING THE OVERAL RISK TO HEALTH VERSUS THE ECONOMIC DAMAGE WE ARE DOING TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY?

6. CONSIDERING FINISHING A 50KM SECTION OF A YEAR AROUND ROAD TO ACCESS TO SASK. THIS WOULD ACCOMADATE THE UNTAPED TRADE AND BRING ECOMONIC BENEFITS TO THE CITY AND ALLOW OUR RESIDENTS TO EXPLORE, VACATION, ENJOY SOME OF THE BEST NATURE HAS TO OFFER, WITHOUT HAVING TO TRAVEL MORE THEN A COUPLE OF HOURS. WOULD SUCH A CONNECTOR ROAD NOT ONLY HAVE ECONOMIC BENEFITS, BUT OFFER BENEFITS TO WELL BEING FOR THOSE FINDING THE REGION ISOLATED WITH RESTRICTED ACCESS TO OTHER NEAR BY DESTINATIONS?

My Name is Charles Wilson, I would like your support and vote in the upcoming 2021 election for Wood Buffalo council. As a long-term resident of Fort McMurray for over 40 years, I have had to pleasure of meeting and marrying my loving wife Hermalene Boucher of Fort McKay (now Hermalene Wilson) and raised my family in this beautiful and culturally diverse region. Originally from St. Jerome, QUE, I arrived in the region to take advantage of the ever growing economy. From being a labourer and operator on site, I was honoured to showcase may skills and talents to my clients with the start of CW Landscaping 20 years ago. I am a skilled Red Seal Carpenter, and active member of the knights of Columbus. I have also served on various committees for the region.

There is no doubt, we have and are going through some unique and difficult times that are affecting the residents and business owners with some severe and tragic lasting impacts both economically, emotionally, and physically. As a new member to the political arena, I only wish I could guarantee change, but I promise I will try with everything to generate positive results and bring back prosperity to the region. As I close in on the later part of life, I have no personal or selfish agenda other then leaving a positive and long-term impact in our community.
