Traditional Matching Program - Big Brothers and Big Sisters (volunteers 18 and over) are matched with a Little (aged 6-16) of the same gender and spend 3-4 hours a week or every other week participating in mutually agreed upon activities in the community or at the volunteers home. In School Mentoring Program - An adult over the age of 17 is matched with a child in the school setting, referred by t
he school and spend 1 hour a week, during the school day for the duration of the school year with that child. Activities such as reading, playing board games, cards, painting, drawing, colouring and simply just talking are some of the things our mentors do with the children they are matched with
Couples Matching Program - Similar to the Traditional Program, this program creates a unique 2-1 match with a couple and a child from the waiti list. Girls are referred by their school to participate in this 1.5 hour a week, 7 week program and 2 volunteer mentors are matched with 8 young women
Game On! Eat Smart, Play Smart, Live Smart! - This is also a group mentoring program run for boys aged 12-14, where 2 male mentor volunteers assist in providing support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. The program runs for 7 weeks during the school day for 1-1.5 hours per day. Stepping Stones Social Skills Program - This is a program developed by Fort Erie Big Brothers and Big Sisters. It is a group mentoring program, providing a group of 4-6 students with lessons in anger management, bullying, feelings, differences in people, etc. It is a 10-12 week program and is run both in the schools, as well as in the office dependant on the need. Big Bunch/Big For a Day Program- For those volunteers that do not have the consistent time every week to spend with a child, we have the Big Bunch Program. This program matches 2-3 children with one volunteer who spends time with the group once a month. Children are chosen from the wait list and the group is encouraged to attend agency events and activities together
