INCIDENT UPDATE

At approximately 1017 hours, Flin Flon Fire Department responded to a reported single-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 39.

Engine 2 and Command 2 responded with a total of eight members. Road conditions were extremely icy, significantly increasing response times.

RCMP and EMS were also responding to the incident. No injuries or immediate hazards were reported. The Fire Department was subsequently notified that its assistance was not required, and responding crews were stood down.

FLIN FLON FIRE DEPARTMENT — ANNUAL BANQUET RECAP

On friday , the Flin Flon Fire Department celebrated its annual firefighter banquet, taking time to recognize the dedication, leadership, and commitment of our members who continue to serve our community.

10 YEARS OF SERVICE

Congratulations to David Green and James Dauk on receiving their 10-year service pins. Thank you both for your years of dedication and commitment to the department and the community we proudly serve.

PROMOTIONS TO CAPTAIN
We would also like to congratulate four members on their promotions from Lieutenant to Captain:
• Captain Kemp
• Captain White
• Captain Hotel
• Captain Dominey

Although Captain Hotel was unable to attend the banquet, we want to recognize and congratulate him alongside his fellow captains.
Leadership is an important part of any fire department. These members play a vital role in guiding our crews, sharing their knowledge and experience, and helping prepare the next generation of firefighters. Congratulations to all four on this well-deserved achievement.
Lieutenant promotions will be announced at a later date.

FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR
A special congratulations to our Firefighter of the Year, Safety Officer Brian Mackie.
With over 30 years of service
Brian represents what it means to be a firefighter through his dedication, leadership, and genuine commitment to the safety of his crew. Day in and day out, Brian puts in the time and effort to make our department better, always keeping the well-being of his fellow firefighters and the needs of our community in mind.
His hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed, and this recognition is well deserved. Thank you, Brian, for everything you do for our department and the community we serve.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK🚨🚒

To wrap up Fire Prevention Week, we had the opportunity to visit Ruth Betts and McIsaac schools to spend time with their Kindergarten, Grade 1, and some Grade 2 students!

FF Reykdal and LT Hotel spoke with the students about fire safety, introduced them to our firefighting gear, and discussed what to do in the event of a fire. Teaching children about fire safety at a young age helps build good habits and gives them the knowledge they need to stay safe.

Not pictured is Captain Romo who also assisted with the afternoon visit at Ruth Betts.

A big thank you to the staff and students for welcoming us! We always enjoy getting out into our community and helping educate the next generation about fire safety.

INCIDENT UPDATE🚨
2 calls for service today

On October 8, 2026, at approximately 1005 hrs, Flin Flon Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm in the area of Terrace Avenue.

Command responded, and while en route, dispatch advised that the alarm was determined to be a false alarm.

Flin Flon Fire Department was cleared from the call and returned to service.

At approximately 1230 hrs, Flin Flon Fire Department was dispatched, along with EMS and RCMP, to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Green Street and Perimeter Highway.

Flin Flon Fire Department responded with Command 2, Engine 2, and Rescue.

Upon arrival, Command found that a southbound Jeep had collided with a Dodge suv, with both vehicles sustaining significant damage.

Firefighters secured the scene and established traffic control while RCMP conducted their investigation. Crews contained leaking vehicle fluids and ensured no additional hazards were present.

One occupant was transported from the scene by EMS with undetermined injuries.

Flin Flon Fire Department was cleared from the scene while the RCMP investigation continued. All units were back in service at approximately 1350 hrs.

🔋 LITHIUM-ION BATTERY FIRE SAFETY
Lithium-ion batteries are found in many of the devices we use every day — including cell phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, e-scooters, and other rechargeable devices.
When used and charged properly, these batteries are generally safe. However, damaged, defective, or improperly charged batteries can overheat and cause a fire.
Help reduce the risk of a lithium-ion battery fire:

🔴 Use the correct charger
Use the charger supplied with the device or a manufacturer-approved replacement.

🔴 Inspect batteries regularly
Do not use batteries that are swollen, cracked, leaking, damaged, or unusually hot.

🔴 Charge on a hard, flat surface
Avoid charging batteries on beds, couches, blankets, or other soft surfaces where heat can build up.

🔴 Keep batteries away from extreme temperatures
Store and charge batteries according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

🔴 Don't leave charging batteries unattended
Whenever possible, avoid charging devices while sleeping or when no one is home.

🔴 Dispose of batteries properly
Never place lithium-ion batteries in regular household garbage or recycling. Take them to an appropriate battery recycling or hazardous-waste collection location.

⚠️ If a battery begins smoking, swelling, or becomes extremely hot, move away from the device and call 911. Do not attempt to handle a battery that is burning or showing signs of thermal runaway.
A few simple charging habits can help prevent a serious fire.
