📢 Visiting Yoho National Park?

Here's your friendly reminder that the Canada Strong Pass will end September 7, 2026. After this date, regular parks pass fees apply.

A pass is required for:
• Hiking, sightseeing, and picnicking
• Visiting the community of Field, B.C.
• Camping and backcountry trips

Entry and service fees help support visitor facilities, services, infrastructure, and conservation efforts throughout the park.

For more than 100 years, pumps have played an important role in fighting wildfires.

While the equipment has evolved, they still do the same thing – bring water to the fire.

Today, Parks Canada fire crew primarily use portable high-pressure pumps. These pumps allow fire crews to move water across rugged terrain and to areas that require long lengths of hose to access the fire.

🐎🏔️ Did someone say ranch?

The dressing may be having its moment in the spotlight, but Yoho Ranch has been part of Yoho National Park's history since before 1939!

Located in Yoho Valley, this historic site has served many purposes over the years including cattle pasture, warden patrol base, and horse training facilities. Today, the Yoho Ranch Cabin and Horse Barn are recognized as federal heritage buildings.

⭐ Fun fact: The cabin originally served as the upper storey of the Natural Bridge Teahouse before being moved to its current location.

It’s International Bat Night! 🦇🌙🌌

The Little Brown Bat is a species at risk in Yoho National Park and dusk is when these fascinating mammals become most active, flying, feeding on insects, and using echolocation to navigate.

As temperatures cool, Little Brown Bats begin seeking out hibernacula: cold, humid, safe places where they spend the winter hibernating. Many bats use caves for this purpose.

Caves are protected spaces, and it is illegal to enter a cave in any national park without a permit. These protections help reduce the risk of spreading White-nose syndrome, a disease that can spread quickly and kill up to 99% of bats at an affected site.

⚠️ The fire ban in Yoho National Park will be lifted today, August 28, 2026, at 1200 p.m.

Recent precipitation, cooler temperatures, and forecasted weather conditions have lowered wildfire risk, allowing this ban to be lifted.

Please remember that even when a fire ban is lifted, Yoho National Park remains under a year-round fire restriction.
✔️Campfires are only allowed in the metal fire rings or boxes provided by Parks Canada.
✔️Backcountry campfires are prohibited in Yoho National Park, except for at Lake O’Hara campground in the designated fire ring.
✔️Campfires must be attended to at all times.
✔️Completely extinguish your campfire with water. Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until it is cool to the touch before leaving it.
✖️Fires made within rock rings are prohibited, year-round within national parks.
✖️Do not throw ci******es on the ground. Put them out and discard them in a bin.

Mark your calendar! The Canada Strong Pass ends September 7, 2026. 🍁

Here is what will be changing on September 8:
✅Admission, camping, and Discovery Passes will return to regular prices
✅ Visitors who previously purchased their Discovery Pass, will automatically receive a three-month extension on their pass
✅ The park gates will return to full operation

Entry and service fees help support visitor facilities, services, infrastructure, and conservation efforts throughout the park.

📸 Capture the perfect photo - safely!

Places like Natural Bridge are guaranteed to take your breath away. Just don’t let them take your footing too.

⚠️ Climbing over fencing or leaving designated trail poses a serious safety risk.

For a great shot:
➜ Stay in designated areas
➜ Zoom in instead of moving closer
➜ Be patient and wait for space at busy viewpoints.
➜ Walk the trail to find a different safe angle

The best photos are the ones that take you home safely. 💚🏔️

🔍 Now and then: can you spot the difference?

These photos of Emerald Lake from 2013 and 2026 both show a beautiful place to stop and enjoy the view. Look a little closer and you'll see the impact of leaving the official trail.

This is called trail braiding.

When people leave the trail:
🌿 Vegetation is damaged
🐿️ Habitat for wildlife is reduced
🌎 Soil becomes compacted, making it harder for water to soak in and plants to grow
🌱 Sensitive areas take a long time to recover

The Emerald Lake area is home to some vegetation communities that are uncommon elsewhere in Yoho, including the alluvial fan seen here at the north end of the lake.

Help protect this special place by respecting signage and staying on marked trails. 💚

🐾 “But, the coyotes do it!”

When you're exploring Yoho National Park with your dog, there are a few rules to follow.

Dogs must:
➜ Be on a leash
➜ Be under control

Humans must:
➜ Pick up after your pet
➜ Dispose of pet waste in garbage bin

Leaving bagged pet waste behind, even temporarily, is littering.

Whether you're exploring on two legs or four, let's help keep Yoho National Park clean and safe for people, pets, and wildlife. 💚🐕
