With the upcoming school year quickly approaching, if you have kids going off to college or university please make sure wherever they are living has working smoke and CO alarms

Take care and stay safe

Moving into a new place for school is exciting. Remember to plan your way out.

Students have so many things to think about when moving into a new place but fire safety matters too. Before a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm sounds, plan two ways out of every room and choose a meeting spot outside. Doing this can save critical time in an emergency.

Fire safety plan: Review the fire safety information provided by your landlord.

Bedrooms: Make sure windows and doors open easily
Hallways and stairs: Keep exits clear of boxes, bags, shoes and clutter.
Roommates: Agree on a meeting spot outside and make sure everyone knows the plan.
Practice: Walk the escape routes so you don’t have to figure it out under pressure.

Your South Huron Firefighters have been responding to numerous calls for service this evening due to the storm that quickly swept through the municipality this afternoon and early evening

There are numerous trees and hydro wires down that have closed many roads in the municipality.

DO NOT GO AROUND ROAD CLOSED SIGNS OR PYLONS,
If you come across wires that are down treat them as if they were live and stay back and keep clear of them.

Hydro one is currently dealing with an extremely high volume of calls for service due to the storm and the damage that it has left in its wake.

Please be patient they are working a quickly and safely as they can to get power restored to those who are currently out.

If you could please check in on your neighbors and make sure they are ok if they experienced damage due to the storm.

If you are without hydro and are using a portable generator for power please make sure you are running it outside and make sure you have working CO detectors.

We want to acknowledge the service of retired firefighter Charles Browning, who passed away August 16th. Committed to making the community safe, Charlie was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for nearly 30 years, proudly serving as Chief in Crediton for 16 of those years.
The South Huron Town Hall flag will fly at half-mast to commemorate Charlie and his service as a first responder.

Thank You to our incredibly generous community! ❤️

A heartfelt Thank You to everyone who dropped off donations or purchased items from The Little Shop to support those affected by the wildfires in Northern Ontario.

This morning, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron Board Member Katelyn and her daughter, Dallas, delivered your generous contributions. Together, our community helped fill 4 trailer loads of much needed supplies, which were sent to Petrolia before continuing on to Thunder Bay.

Your kindness, compassion, and willingness to help makes a real difference for families facing difficult times. Thank you for showing the true spirit of community. 💙
