Trump is now retaliating against Carney’s tariffs by banning Canadian alcohol and other products.

Meanwhile, CBC panellists are warning that mounting job losses could soon have Canadians questioning Carney’s entire strategy and losing confidence in the man promoted for his résumé and ability to deal with Donald Trump.

Many Canadians in their 50s, 60s and 70s shifted their support late in the election campaign because they believed Carney was the person best equipped to negotiate with the United States.

Carney campaigned on his ability to negotiate a new relationship with the United States and promised to begin talks immediately after the election. Then, in June 2025, Carney and Trump set a 30-day target for reaching a new economic and security agreement.

More than a year later, Canada still has no deal with its largest trading partner. Jobs are being lost and the dispute continues to escalate.

Was supporting Carney the right decision? Are those voters now ready to change course and elect someone new to secure a deal and protect Canadian jobs?

With municipal election season underway, political conversations and rumours are beginning to circulate. We want to set the record straight on a few things that have recently been brought to our attention.

First, Chris Lewis is not endorsing or backing any candidate in the upcoming municipal election.

Municipal, provincial and federal politics are separate levels of government. With new people becoming involved in local politics, those lines can sometimes become blurred. Chris is focused on his responsibilities as the federal Member of Parliament for Essex.

Second, we have heard a rumour suggesting that Chris is considering crossing the floor to join the Liberal Party. That is completely false.

Chris has never been approached by a member of the Liberal Party to cross the floor or accept an appointment. He has never considered joining the Liberal Party or any other political party.

Further, MP Lewis has the unequivocal support of his family to run in the next federal general election, whenever that election may be.

Politics can unfortunately generate rumours, particularly during election season. Repeating something does not make it true. Before sharing political information as fact, we encourage people to consider the source and verify it.

There will be plenty of legitimate issues and ideas to debate in the months ahead. Let's keep those conversations based on facts.
