Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a weather briefing, warning that this evening and overnight there is the possibility in Southwestern Ontario -- including Windsor and Essex County -- of wind gusts up to 120 km/h, rainfall amounts up to 55 mm, potentially severe thunderstorms, and possibly even tornadoes. Storms could bring localized rainfall in the range of 50 to 80 mm by noon Thursday.

Also, the Essex Region Conservation Authority consequently advises that a Shoreline Conditions Statement is in effect for the Lake Erie shoreline, including Pelee Island: "The areas of the region most affected by these winds are anticipated to be the shoreline area around Point Pelee National Park in the Municipality of Leamington and the west shoreline of Pelee Island in Lake Erie."

ERCA also says people "are encouraged to take extra caution to avoid areas where flooding is occurring, as well as rivers, streams and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events."

A (Yellow) heat warning has been issued for today and tomorrow (Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11, 2026) by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach at least 31 C, with daytime humidex readings exceeding 40 C, and night-time temperatures no cooler than 21 C.

Please stay hydrated and cool, check on the elderly, and monitor infants and children on their time and exposure to the heat.

Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults, infants and young children, people who work or exercise in the heat, and those with certain medical conditions. Warning signs of heat-related illness include dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, weakness, and confusion. If you experience any of these symptoms seek immediate medical attention.

Check on friends, family, and neighbours frequently during heat events, and even after the weather cools off, as they may still feel the effects of the heat.

Be safe, everyone!
