The second Sunday in September of each year is designated in memory of firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty.

Flags are at half-mast to remember the firefighters who have lost their lives protecting communities across B.C. and Canada. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice.

Are you on the registered elector list?

The Township uses the Provincial Voters List for the list of electors. If you are not on the list of electors, you may register in advance with Elections BC or at the time of voting by completing the application form available at the voting place and making a declaration that you meet the qualifications to be registered. Find election information at https://www.esquimalt.ca/government-bylaws/elections

Beginning September 1, until the close of general voting for the election on October 17, 2026, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the Township of Esquimalt Municipal Hall.

An elector may request that their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors.

Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list or otherwise use the information except for the purposes of Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.

Find the list at 1229 Esquimalt Road, during regular office hours between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

There are so many options for getting to Esquimalt Ribfest this weekend! Travel light by taking transit, walking or using the free bike valet.

Driving? The Ribfest Shuttle will take you from the dedicated lot on Lyall Street right to the event and is running all weekend.

Please be mindful of resident parking areas and only park where permitted. If you need to park a few blocks away, Esquimalt is very walkable and we encourage you to enjoy the neighbourhood.

Accessible parking is available at Archie Browning and the Esquimalt Recreation Centre.

Prepared at work: start with the basics

Emergencies do not only happen when we are at home. They can affect staff, customers, services and the day-to-day operation of a workplace.

Take a few simple steps:

✔️Talk with your team about the emergencies that could affect your workplace
✔️Check that exits and evacuation routes are clearly marked and accessible
✔️Identify a safe meeting place
✔️Make sure staff know what to do if they need to evacuate or shelter in place
✔️Check emergency contacts, first aid kits and other basic safety supplies

The Township of Esquimalt was incorporated on September 1, 1912. The first Reeve was Charles Lugrin, pictured here. You can read the minutes from the very first council meeting!

Did you know that Council met at Lampson Street School (also pictured here) before moving to the new building on Thornton Avenue? Council of course now meets at the municipal hall on Esquimalt Road.

Several things have changed since 1912, from our municipal hall to the representation of women on council and as mayor. We're still a few years away from our next milestone anniversary, but each year allows us to pause and reflect on the township's history and context in the region, both as part of the CRD and as part of Lekwungen lands.
