The Espanola Fire Department is looking for dedicated individuals for our upcoming recruit class starting September 2026.

As a volunteer firefighter, you'll receive training, develop valuable skills, build lifelong friendships, and help protect the community when it matters most.

Our firefighters serve on a volunteer basis, but are compensated for training, emergency responses, and other approved department activities.

We are looking for people who are:

✅ Dependable
✅ Willing to learn
✅ Ready to serve their community

No previous firefighting experience is required. We provide the training and support you need to succeed.

CURRENT FIRE RATING UPDATED JUNE 15, 2026: MODERATE

No open air burning is allowed between 8am and 7pm.
All fires must have adequate tools and resources to extinguish the fire and must be supervised at all times. Fires must abide by all stipulations set out in the burning By-law 2493/12.

🚨 FIRE RATING UPDATED JUNE 10, 2026: FIRE BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT 🚨

The lighting of fires in all areas and boundaries of the Town of Espanola is prohibited. During a fire ban no person shall light, or allow to remain alight, any fire in an open area, any outdoor incinerator or any cooking fire or device other than a gas barbecue or cooker.

All fire permits in the fire ban area are suspended for the duration of the ban.

This prohibited fire ban will remain in force until revoked by further notice. Area residents and visitors are reminded to be especially vigilant, in particular in or near forested areas.
