This June, Deputy Chief Krista celebrates 5 years with the White City Fire Department, and what a 5 years it has been.
Back in June of 2021, Krista first came through our doors to lead a fitness and nutrition session for our members. It didn’t take long before the WCFD crew saw something more and encouraged her to try firefighting. Wanting to get more involved in the community and realizing the gardening club wasn’t quite her lane, she stepped up and joined the White City Fire Department.
From someone who once admitted she was terrified of heights, to confidently climbing and operating from the top of our ladder truck, Krista quickly proved she could handle anything thrown her way.
In 2022, Krista represented both our department and the firefighting community through the Saskatchewan Firefighters Calendar, helping raise funds for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital as the featured calendar model for the month of June 2023.
In July of 2023, she officially earned her NFPA 1001 certification and became a firefighter.
In 2024, Krista played a major role in bringing Camp Molly to our community, helping inspire and encourage women to explore careers in firefighting. Her leadership and passion helped grow Camp Molly’s presence across Western Canada, and she continues to be heavily involved with camps and mentorship opportunities throughout the province.
Then in September of 2024, Krista was officially named Deputy Chief — a role where she continues to help lead the direction of the department, support our members, and play a huge part in our day-to-day operations.
Over the past 5 years, Krista has become far more than just a firefighter. She has become a leader, mentor, advocate, and an important part of the WCFD family and our community.
Congratulations Krista on your 5-year milestone anniversary — and thank you for everything you do for our department and our community.
