The Protecting Ontario’s Streets and Communities Act, 2026 builds on our plan to protect Ontario by strengthening public safety and keeping our communities safe. If passed, these measures will:

✅ Protect transit riders by cracking down on illegal drug use on transit
✅ Improve protections for victims of human trafficking
✅ Strengthen oversight of the towing and private security industries
✅ Give law enforcement stronger tools to keep communities safe

A few weeks ago, I toured the Laminar Water facility in Cambridge to see the cutting-edge ultrafiltration technology being used as part of the Mannheim Water Treatment Plant side stream project.

This temporary, advanced solution will safely filter river water at the Mannheim plant, with the potential to add up to 300 litres per second of capacity while permanent upgrades are underway.

A huge thank you to the team at Laminar Water and the Ministry of Environment, Conservation, and Parks for working alongside the Region of Waterloo.

Great to visit Hill’s Lake Fish Culture Station in Englehart last week to see our stocking program in action and discuss the upcoming upgrades at the facility. A new hatchery building is also set to begin construction this summer, strengthening Ontario’s stocking capacity for years to come.

As part of our $75 million investment in Ontario’s hatchery program, Hill’s Lake will be able to raise and release over 530,000 fish annually, including splake and aurora trout.

Our government is investing $10M in the modernization of Georgia-Pacific’s Englehart facility. This $191M project will protect over 220 forestry workers, increase production of Ontario wood products, and strengthen our forest sector.

Strategic investments like this are helping forest businesses defend, adapt and grow in a changing global market.

Woolwich firefighters put their lives on the line to keep our community safe, and it’s our responsibility to ensure they have what they need to stay safe on the job.

Our government is providing over $100,000 to the Woolwich Fire Department through the Fire Protection Grant to help renovate the fire hall and provide essential new equipment, including bunker gear, extractors, a gear dryer, particulate hoods, and gloves - better equipping fire crews to protect the community.
