A child who reads their first word out loud. A story dog-eared and passed from one set of hands to another. A whole world that opens up, one page at a time.

Everything starts with literacy. Everything.

Today is , highlighting that the ability to read and write is not just a school skill—it is a foundation for participation, dignity and opportunity in every aspect of life.

Literacy is a top priority for public school boards. In Education Plans across the province, you can find goals and outcomes about increasing literacy for students, especially at a young age. Public school boards also actively approve and invest in literacy programs because they know literacy is the foundation every other subject is built on.

On Tuesday, September 8, our teachers will be in the west playground field at 8:10 a.m. to gather their new class of students. Families are asked to use the west side entrance, closest to the bus lane. If the weather is rainy, please enter through the main entrance instead. Staff will be on hand to welcome families and help direct your child to the appropriate location.

Please note that supervision begins at 8:00 a.m. every morning, and the warning bell to come inside rings at 8:30 a.m. Dismissal for all students will be at 3:15 p.m. Bus students will exit the school through their designated wing doors and head directly to the supervisors in the bus lane. Non-bus students will exit through the front doors of the school. It would be good idea to establish a designated pick up location with your child as traffic can be an issue at the end of the day.

For the continued safety of our students and staff, MBE will remain a closed campus this year, with all doors being locked throughout the day. Parents may access the school by ringing the doorbell at the main entrance and reporting to the office, where our staff will be happy to assist you.

We are very excited to welcome our new students to the MBE family and can’t wait to have all of our amazing students back for another fantastic year of learning!
