"Uhhh... so what does Jamie ACTUALLY do?" 🤔

Fair question.

A lot of people hear "social worker" and aren't really sure what that means.

Here's the short version:

✔ Counseling

✔ Family support

✔ Parent coaching

✔ Crisis support

✔ School and systems navigation

✔ Emotional regulation support

✔ Family communication and conflict resolution

✔ Practical strategies that actually work in real life

Some days I'm helping a teen work through anxiety.

Some days I'm helping parents and kids communicate without it turning into an argument.

Some days I'm helping families navigate schools, community resources, or mental health systems.

And sometimes I'm sitting at a family's kitchen table helping them figure out what comes next when life feels overwhelming.

No judgment.
No blame.
No fluff.

Just practical, real-life support for real-life challenges.

Reminder to self (and probably a few other parents too):
You are allowed to take care of yourself even while taking care of everyone else.

I’ve been a little quieter on social media the past week or so — partly because life has been busy, and partly because I’ve been trying to practice what I constantly encourage other people to do: slow down a little when needed.

Sometimes self-care looks like quiet mornings, therapy, exercise, or rest.

And sometimes it looks like throwing on a comfy pink set, grabbing your emotional support yorkie, and wandering around Winners pretending you’re “just looking.” 😂

Life gets heavy sometimes — especially when you spend so much of your energy caring for others. Taking small moments to reset, breathe, laugh, and reconnect with yourself matters too.

You can care deeply about your family and still make space for yourself in the process.

Also… Coco clearly believes she IS the self-care (and she isn't wrong!). 🐶💕

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms carrying more than anyone realizes. 🤍

To the moms managing the schedules, the emotions, the sports practices, the school stress, the appointments, the mental load, the worries nobody sees, and the constant pressure to somehow hold everything together…

You are doing better than you think you are.

To the moms showing up exhausted but still showing up anyway: your presence matters more than perfection ever will.

And to the moms navigating hard seasons with their teens or families right now — the fact that you keep trying, keep loving, and keep fighting for connection matters more than you know.

Wishing all moms a day filled with love, appreciation, caffeine, and hopefully at least one uninterrupted bathroom trip. 💐☕😂

Happy Mother’s Day, from Rivet Support Services. ❤️

Youth athletes carry more than equipment bags.

They carry pressure. Expectations. Fear of disappointing people. The emotional highs of success and the heartbreak of mistakes — all while still trying to figure out who they are as kids.

Behind every athlete is still a young person learning confidence, emotional regulation, resilience, communication, and self-worth.

Sometimes what they need most isn’t another lecture, consequence, or breakdown of the game.

Sometimes they need support that helps them manage pressure, navigate emotions, build coping skills, and feel understood both on and off the field.

At Rivet Support Services, I work with youth and families navigating stress, overwhelm, emotional struggles, confidence challenges, communication breakdowns, and the pressures that often come with competitive sports and busy teen lives.

Because mentally healthy athletes matter too. ❤️

Parents, when your teen comes to you and says they want to quit an activity that they used to love, give it pause and ask them why. I mean really sit them down and ask what shifted, and then listen while giving space for them to tell you why leaving something they used to have passion for is so important now.

These teens don’t quit because they’re lazy, or just want more screen time.

They quit because they were humiliated long enough, felt small too many times, felt the sting of rejection or the silence in not having support.

Because every practice started feeling like survival instead of sport.
Because teammates excluded them.
Because adults looked the other way.

Because speaking up took courage… and was met with silence when they did.

If your teen walked away from something they once loved, don’t rush to call it “giving up.”

Sometimes leaving is self-respect.
Sometimes leaving is protection.
Sometimes leaving is the first healthy decision they’ve made in months.

And to the teens reading this:

You are not weak for leaving environments that make you feel small.
You are not “too sensitive.”
You deserve friends, teammates, coaches, teachers, and adults who build you up — not break you down.

A healthy activity or sport should challenge you.
It should never destroy your confidence to keep you there.

I will help you find what you feel you've lost, and find the strength in yourself as we go. Message me "LEAVING" if you need to lean on me a little while we work through this together.

❤️

If things feel tense at home right now, you’re not alone.

Most families I work with aren’t dealing with “bad behaviour".

They’re dealing with stress, overwhelm, and communication that’s completely broken down. By the time they reach out, they’ve usually tried everything.

That’s where I come in.

I work directly with youth and families to:

• reduce daily conflict
• improve communication
• create structure that actually works
• and help things feel manageable again

This isn’t about long-term therapy with no direction.
It’s practical, real-life support that creates change.

If this sounds like your home right now, message me “SUPPORT” and I’ll help you work through this.

Therapy vs. Counseling — what’s the difference?

This comes up a lot, so let’s break it down.

“Therapy” is often used as a general term, but in practice it can include more specialized mental health treatment provided by psychologists or clinicians working with complex diagnoses and clinical interventions.

As a Registered Social Worker (BSW), I provide counseling within my scope of practice.

That means I support youth and families with:
• emotional overwhelm
• stress, crisis, and life transitions
• communication and family dynamics
• system navigation (schools, FSCD, healthcare, etc.)
• building practical skills and strategies

My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and real-life focused.

I’m not here to diagnose or provide specialized clinical treatment — I’m here to help you make sense of what’s happening, build a plan, and move forward in a way that actually works in your day-to-day life.

Both therapy and counseling are valuable.
The key is finding the right fit for what you need.

Not all support happens best in an office.

For a lot of youth, walking into a clinical space can feel intimidating, awkward, or just… not it.
In-home counseling changes that.

It meets them where they’re already comfortable — their space, their routine, their real life. And that matters more than people think.

When I work with youth in their home:
• they open up faster
• we see what’s actually going on day-to-day
• skills are practiced in real time, not just talked about
• caregivers can be naturally included when it’s helpful

It’s not just “more convenient.”
It’s often more effective.

Because real change doesn’t happen in a perfect office setting —
it happens in the middle of real life.

If your teen is struggling, shutting down, or refusing traditional counseling, this might be the better fit.
