From the formation of Alberta and Edmonton’s earliest social service organizations to the launch of the Human Services Council, this timeline traces more than a century of collaboration, leadership and change. It also looks ahead to where we see Edmonton’s human services sector reaching by 2050.

This week, the Human Services Council is launching findings from the 2026 Human Services Sector Survey. As the first survey of its kind, this research establishes an important benchmark for understanding the sector’s strengths, pressures and priorities.

Insights from 149 nonprofit leaders create a baseline that can help us track change, identify emerging trends and understand how the sector evolves over time.
