AMP sends its gratitude to its amazing Leadership Team, who collective guide and champion mentoring across Alberta! As a mentoring resource organization, AMP strengthens networks and builds capacity for mentoring schools, communities and agencies to deliver high-impact mentoring to the youth and young adults they serve. This is only possible because of the contributions of our many partners, including members of our Leadership.

Join AMP for an upcoming webinar with Dr. Teena Starlight exploring the 4R’s: Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, and Responsibility.

This session will invite participants to reflect on how the 4R’s can guide meaningful relationship-building, mentoring, and community connection when working alongside Indigenous youth and communities.

We look forward to learning together in a space grounded in reflection, respect, and shared understanding.

Youth voice is essential to mental health. Natural Supports means listening, believing, and validating young people because feeling heard directly strengthens emotional wellbeing and resilience.

Strong mental health is built through belonging. Natural Supports reminds us that “family” can include any caring relationship that helps a young person feel safe, supported, and emotionally grounded.

Connection is a foundation of youth mental health. Through Natural Supports, caring relationships act as protective factors that help young people feel safe, supported, and less alone during difficult moments.

When connection comes first, mental health support becomes more accessible and meaningful.

Surrounding young people with care starts with advocacy, listening, and action 💛

From youth voice and BIPOC mental health support to community training and normalizing rest, we all have a role to play in creating safer, more supportive environments for young people in schools, communities, and at home.

This post is adapted from The Role of Strong Relationships in Supporting Positive Mental Well-Being for All Young People: Mentoring and Youth Mental Health, developed by The Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Connection is at the core of mentorship. 💛

A Natural Supports approach focuses on helping young people build meaningful, trusting relationships with the people already in their lives, such as family, mentors, teachers, Elders, peers, and community members.

It is about strengthening connection, belonging, and youth voice so young people feel supported and seen.
