Belinda was referred to the Roots and Wings program through her child’s school following some financial hardships.

Sumiya recognized that even when Belinda was able to meet the basic needs of her family, she often continued to struggle emotionally. Sumiya explored this with Belinda, who reflected on how she often isolated herself, keeping people at a distance to protect herself from being hurt again.

Our team at The Family Centre supports prospective foster caregivers through the entire registration process. But did you know we also provide extensive training about Indigenous culture and teachings?

“We are super happy for [the children in our care] to be able to attend cultural events. [They have learned about] cultural dance, music, and understand more about their history," shared one of our caregivers. "Smudging was one of the big things we also learned more about; how it cleanses and promotes well-being and connecting individuals with their spirituality and the natural world."

We are so excited to continue learning alongside and working with the caregivers in our community, providing safe homes to children and youth in foster care.
