Sohkastwaw Lodge is a family reunification home with 24-hour professionally staffed for Indigenous families with child welfare involvement within Canada. The program provides families with connection to their Indigenous culture through engagement with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, cultural teachings, attendance at ceremony, and land-based activities. The program also provides families with evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and Clinical Hypnosis, to address trauma.
Schedule:
This position is for a part-time and casual with an hourly pay rate of $21-26 an hour. Family resiliency workers work shift work with 7 days on and 7 days off.
Roles of Family Resiliency Workers:
· Observes, assesses and documents significant behaviors emitted by young person/family in activity logs and reports.
· Creates and designs age appropriate, daily living activities as a forum for therapeutic and educational interventions.
· Initiates, organizes monitors and actively participates in group activities, (special outings, concerts, sports, dances, party games, crafts, camping, music) as part of the treatment plan.
· On an ongoing basis, observes and assesses interactions, behaviors and affect.
· Teaches and assists young people/family in acquiring appropriate skills relating to daily chores, routines, and personal hygiene habits.
· Escorts young people to medical, dental and optical appointments as necessary.
· Advocates and actively builds trust and rapport with young people (and family) through interactive play, activities, and personal interactions.
· Intervenes in crisis situation, utilizing non abusive restraint practices as necessary.
· Maintains a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to behavior management and explains behavioral expectations and consequences.
· Preparing and cooking meals for the family and employees with support from family members.
· Assists children with personal hygiene, including toileting, changing diapers, and bathing.
· Cleaning the Lodge using universal precautions.
Qualifications and Professional Experience:
- All employees are required to have a two-year diploma or a degree in social work or child and youth care from an accredited university. Employees with a diploma are also required to have a minimum of two years experience in related work, and employees with a degree are not required to have experience although this is highly recommended.
- Persons with a diploma or degree from other human services disciplines will be considered for employment if they have relevant experience or specialized skills required.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license.
- A vehicle in good, safe, working condition to transport clients. If older than 5 years old will require an inspection.
- Standard first aid, su***de prevention certificates, and CPI is an asset, however, courses are offered after commencement.
- Clear Police security check, clear Intervention record, as well as a copy of a 10 year drivers abstract are conditions of employment and the financial responsibility of the candidate.
** Sohkastwaw Lodge requires that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination status.
