An absolute great time tonight at the youth fire extinguisher course put on at our department. Some solid theory reinforced with great practical skills to help better prepare 10 of our communities youth for using a fire extinguisher in their own home or simply how to just smother out a fire in a pan by placing the lid on it to remove the fires oxygen. The kids had great questions and enthusiasm towards tonight's lesson. We finished the evening with a demonstration for the class on why we never use water to extinguisher a grease fire. We want to take a minute to thank our sponsors for this course: GTI/The Safety Depot. These 2 companies allowed it so that each of the youth in today's course also got to take home a brand new extinguisher to mount in their home. We cant thank them enough for their support on this project. We would also like to thank Centratech for supplying the extinguishers for the course itself. Lastly, we have a few members that took this project from its initial stages and immediately ran with it. With out their time and dedication, none of tonight would have been possible and the great lessons learnt tonight from our youth would not have happened. So thank you to our Eckville Fire Volunteers as well for supporting and turning the "hey what do you think about this" ideas and making them into great evenings of lessons and skills.
