The annual budget decisions made by the mayor and council of East Gwillimbury have far-reaching implications for the community, encompassing a broad spectrum of issues including fire services, libraries, health and active living plaza, trees, parking, road maintenance, homelessness, housing, parks, land use, internet service, water quality, sewers, and parks and recreation. The council's approval of this year's budget, despite significant challenges, is appreciated. The budget marks a critical investment in the growth of East Gwillimbury Fire Emergency Services, addressing a need that has been evident in recent years. The East Gwillimbury Professional Fire Fighters Association extends its gratitude to each member of Council for their approval of the budget. Thank you, Mayor Hackson, Councillor Roy-DiClemente, Councillor Foster, Councillor Crone, Councillor Johns, and Councillor Carruthers.

As EG begins budget deliberations we want to publically express our sincere thanks to Mayor Hackson, Councillors Johns, Lahey, Crone and Carruthers. All have stepped up to the plate and declared their support for EGFES. Through cooperation and collabration this is only the beginning to improve community and firefighter safety in EG.

Over the coming weeks, the Town of East Gwillimbury will begin budget deliberations on investments for the community.

There are a number of initiatives that I wanted to share with the community that I will be supporting, and further to that, cost saving measures that I will be advocating for to help balance our financial responsibilities.

To that end, I will be sharing periodically throughout the month ahead in these areas.

In Fire and Emergency Services, below are the items I will be championing.

Thank you to the IAFF for listening and hearing our voice. In Ontario we have no mechanism for charges for other IAFF members working in our IAFF local as two hatters where it is problematic. We do have good wages and benefits which we are trying to desperately to protect along with our work. It’s unfortunate that there is a big divide in opinions but we are glad we had an opportunity to have our voices heard.

🔥The is raising awareness on the dangers of two-hatting.

Participating in two-hatting can affect IAFF members' rest and recovery, potentially leading to lower wages if they experience injury, illness, or death.

This practice can also undermine efforts to improve working conditions, wages, and benefits for members in IAFF Canada - AIP.

The East Gwillimbury full time firefighters want to thank all of those that generously made a donation to support two local families from the war ravaged Ukraine. Words are not able to convey the appreciation that these two families expressed. While $1500 per family does not go very far in todays world it will help put food on the table and pay for the required necessities of raising children.

As firefighters it was a honour to be able to come along side these families and facilitate some awareness to their difficult situation. We all need to be reminded once and awhile that there are people working and fighting hard to be able to make it through each and every day. Our world would be a better place if we spent more of our time, energy and resources helping those in need.

That is the calling of each and every first responder, helping others in times of need without partiality. Helping others regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, political affiliations, or any other social economic status! People simply helping people - that should be the calling of all no matter one’s profession!
