Nobody teaches young people this before they need it.

And by the time they learn it, it’s often through fear, confusion, or a system they didn’t choose to enter.

Here’s what many youth don’t know:
💭 You can be involved in the justice system and still have options.
💭 You can be stopped by police and still have rights.
💭 You can be charged and still access diversion or community-based pathways.
💭 You can make a mistake and not have your entire future defined by it.

Yes, systemic barriers exist.

But part of the issue is that information to navigate these systems is not being shared in ways that are accessible, culturally safe, or youth-centred.
When young people don’t understand the system, they are more vulnerable within it.

💡 That’s why education is prevention.

At Revitaled Reintegration Services, we believe safety starts with knowledge, dignity, and access to information before crisis points.

Because no young person should be navigating systems they were never taught how to understand.

📌 Save this. Share it with a young person in your life. Let’s close the information gap.

On March 27, 2026, the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism notified agencies funded under the Black Youth Action Plan that ongoing funding could no longer be guaranteed.

While $16.5M has been allocated, the province is shifting priorities toward private sector partnerships and employment placement — at the expense of the community services that make employment possible.

For several community organizations, this means a potential loss in operational funding and the layoff of thousands of staff. Revitaled has identified that, within the Durham Region, 22 agencies and 90,000 Black youth and families are affected.
Here’s what the data tells us:
• Black youth unemployment sits at 25.7% vs 17.6% for the general youth population (Statistics Canada, 2023)
• 94% of Black youth aspire to university, but only 60% believe it’s possible
• Black Canadians earn the lowest wages in STEM and skilled trades sectors

You cannot remove mentorship, advocacy, mental health support, and education navigation and expect job placements alone to work. A young person cannot keep a job if they are fighting systemic barriers at school, at home, and in their community.

These are not “extra” services.

They are the infrastructure that keeps youth from falling into crisis.

Personalize the message. Share how these programs have impacted you or your family. And contact your MPP. The more voices heard, the stronger we are.

At Revitaled, our supports focus on 8 areas of wellness, including environmental wellness because how we interact with the world around us directly impacts our health and well-being. This Earth Day , let’s take steps to connect with nature and support our personal wellness.

3 Ways to Boost Your Wellness in Nature:
1️⃣ Spend intentional time outdoors: Go for a walk, sit in a park, or just breathe in fresh air. Nature lowers stress, improves mood, and boosts focus.
2️⃣ Move your body outside: Try stretching, yoga, or light exercise in a natural setting. Physical activity in nature combines fitness with mental relaxation.
3️⃣ Mindfully engage your senses: Listen to birds, notice the colors around you, or feel the breeze. Tuning in to your surroundings strengthens mindfulness and presence.

Black boys are going missing across Ontario, and all too often their stories don’t receive the urgency, visibility, or media coverage they deserve.

Every child deserves to be searched for, and every family deserves support.

🖤 Here is what you can do:
• Share missing person posts (see on Instagram)
• Check in with youth in your community
• Build safe, trusted relationships so young people have someone to turn to
• Advocate for equitable media coverage and police response
• Support organisations doing on-the-ground work

🛑 Safety tips for youth:
• Always let someone know where you are and who you’re with
• Keep your phone charged and location sharing on when possible
• Trust your instincts; if something feels off, leave immediately
• Stay in groups, especially at night
• Know safe places you can go in an emergency (community centres, trusted homes, businesses)

At Revitaled, we approach community safety and well-being solutions from an Afrocentric perspective. It is crucial for our organization to share information about the most recent community safety issues affecting our community, as well as ways to protect ourselves against them.

As unemployment rates rise and more and more Canadians apply for jobs online, the risk of being a target for scams increases. Over 108,000 fraud reports were filed in 2024, with job fraud among the rising threats. 2024 data from the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) show that investment fraud accounted for over $310 million in losses.

For communities that already face systemic barriers to employment, wealth-building, and financial stability, these risks are structural.

👉 Practices that support economic safety and collective resilience:
✅Verify job offers and employers before sharing personal information
✅Be cautious of requests for upfront fees, urgent payments, or “too good to be true” opportunities
✅Review bank and credit statements regularly
✅Use trusted financial and employment resources whenever possible
