🧯Here are the calls our department responded to from August 23-29:
- 9 medical first responses
- 3 wildland fires (📸)
- 1 water rescue

📸 This Aug. 23 grass fire required firefighters and apparatus from Stations 1, 4, and 5. Notably, the response provided an opportunity for crews from Stations 1 and 4 to put new purpose-built wildland fire apparatus to work.
These units were designed to operate in the challenging terrain found throughout Cypress County, including rough ground, steep hills, coulees, and areas that can be difficult to access with conventional fire apparatus.
Alberta Wildfire personnel also spotted the smoke while conducting aerial patrols in the area and were prepared to provide additional support if required, an example of the strong partnerships and coordination between emergency response agencies in our region.
Thanks to the quick response and hard work of our firefighters, the fire was brough under control and extinguished before it could spread further.
We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the surrounding landowners and community members who assisted our crews by providing access to water and small equipment.

2:45 p.m. UPDATE: The scene is clear, highway is reopened to traffic.

🚨 Emergency crews are on the scene of a train/semi collision on Range Road 35 at Highway 1.

Westbound lanes of the highway are impacted due to the incident. Pigs which were being transported by the semi are in the area. Please avoid the area, slow down if you are on that stretch and give crews space to work.

🛟 Yesterday was a great reminder of how wearing a life jacket can prevent tragedy

✅ Our crews responded to two simultaneous water rescue calls on Elkwater Lake. Thankfully, everyone involved was wearing a life jacket. Rescue Boat 5 made multiple trips to get everyone back to shore, and no injuries were reported.

🚁 HALO Air Ambulance also provided valuable aerial reconnaissance, relaying information and coordinating rescues.

🤝 Community members were willing to step forward, which is great. But our firefighters are trained in hazard recognition, rescue operations, and scene safety, plus they're equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment. Always follow the directions of emergency personnel.

A job well done, all of you. Let's stay safe this weekend, keep those life jackets on!

🚒🌲🧑‍🚒This past weekend, Cypress County Fire Services Station 5 (Elkwater) and our Technical Rescue Team responded to a backcountry medical emergency in the Elkwater area.

With the remote location and difficult terrain, crews couldn’t reach the patient by emergency vehicles or UTVs, so equipment and a stretcher were carried in on foot. Responders quickly reached the patient, provided care, stabilized them, and safely transported them back to EMS.🥾🩺🚑

Thank you to the members of the public who stopped to help. We’re proud of the teamwork and professionalism shown by everyone involved.
