🎗️🪜Once again our team climbed 57 flights at the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge in Calgary, raising $4,083 for Wellspring Alberta.

Jeff Harvey, one of eight members of our team, had his story highlighted by the event.

“Losing my dad to cancer changed our family forever," Jeff told event organizers. Taking part in the Stairclimb is one way I can honour him while helping other families find the support they need through organizations like Wellspring Alberta."

UPDATE: As of 4:11 p.m. the tornado alert is cancelled.

⚠️ Suffield/Seven Persons Emergency alert issued for tornado/severe storm

At 3:15 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. This dangerous thunderstorm is located 15 km west of Suffield and is moving to the southeast at 65 km/h. Communities in the path include: Ralston Suffield

UPDATE: At 3:52 p.m. the path of the storm now includes Seven Persons, Redcliff, and Medicine Hat.

This is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when a thunderstorm is producing or is likely to produce a tornado.

🔥 In accordance with Cypress County Bylaw 2025/07 and current weather patterns throughout southeastern Alberta, Cypress County is lifting its fire restriction.

Fire permits will not be issued at this time.

🏡 Plan to be out in Elkwater Sunday (May 31) for our annual FireSmart Day open house.

Swing by the Elkwater Park Learning Centre between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., have a bite to eat at our barbecue, visit with the firefighters and see a variety of equipment they use.

🔔This past weekend, we hosted an NFPA 1140 Wildland course with 17 students from across the region. Participants included members from CFB Suffield Range Control, County of Forty Mile (Bow Island Station), and the Town of Redcliff.

Regional training opportunities like this are extremely valuable, as they allow emergency responders to train together, build relationships, and better understand each other’s operations before meeting on an actual incident.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the instructors who dedicated their time, knowledge, and experience to make this training opportunity possible. Their commitment to developing responders across the region is greatly appreciated.
