On May 14th, members of the Duncan Fire Department were happy to spend the day at Queen of Angels School supporting their fundraising event.

We had a truck on display and a fire hose demonstration for the kids to try and also enjoyed playing games with the students!

Duncan Fire Department is proud to introduce another member of our team in our “Meet a Member” series.

Years of Service: 1 year + 5 months
Day Job: Paramedic for BCEHS

───────────────

Q: How did you hear about the firefighting opportunity?

A: "I heard about the firefighting opportunities in Duncan through ads on Facebook and doing my own research on the Duncan website".

───────────────

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to anyone thinking of applying to the fire department based on your experience here, what would it be?

A: "You don’t have to be perfect—you just have to be willing to learn and keep showing up. Pay attention, do your part, and don’t cut corners. The job will test you, so stay steady, take care of yourself, and be someone others can trust".

───────────────

Q: When your pager goes off at 3am, what is it that inspires you to respond to the fire hall?

A: “Adrenaline kicks in, and so does purpose—you know someone needs help, so you get up and go without thinking twice”.

───────────────

Q: What is a moment while Firefighting, either training or emergencies that stands out to you?

A: “The morale at our hall is really strong—it’s a close-knit crew that works well together and genuinely likes being around each other. Everyone checks in on each other and builds each other’s confidence, and it’s a very supportive environment. I feel very lucky and honoured to be apart of it”.

───────────────

Q: What two things would you grab if your house were on fire?

A: "My pets and childhood stuffed animal".

───────────────

Thank you Abby for your Service to the Duncan community!

Duncan Fire Department is proud to present our new Meet a Member series.

For our first feature, we’re introducing Stacey, who has dedicated over a year to the department while balancing her role as an Administrative Assistant and being a mother!

"I value teamwork and continuous improvement. No one succeeds alone in the fire service. I believe in supporting those around me, being open to feedback, and putting in the work to improve my skills" - Stacey

We are extremely thankful for the training and skill that Capt Woodley was able to use while helping a patient in Maple Bay.

Capt Woodley was, by chance, the first to a mountain bike accident where he identified the need for medical help and was able to assist the Maple Bay Fire Department in safely moving the patient to our Ambulance partners BCEHS. If that wasn’t enough, the community of firefighting was further positively impacted as we learned that the patient was also a firefighter on the island in Sooke.

Sooke Fire took the time to come and share their appreciation to Capt Woodley and pass on that their firefighter is now on a path to recovery.

Thank you to Capt Woodley for the leadership and skill you brought to that difficult situation.
