Priority #2: Open Council

I've heard you loud and clear. We need an and leadership that understands that consistent communication is a pillar of good government.

Sadly, what we’ve seen is leadership that communicates only in an emergency, not at all, or only when it benefits them.

Here are my ideas to keep Council honest, and to ensure we communicate with our people:

1) Communication - it's what I do! I understand that the relationship between Band Member and Leadership is one of trust, and based on 2-way Communication.

2) Council Meetings - will be webcast to ensure accountability in the decision-making process, and Meeting Minutes will be posted on the Band website.

3) Members Assemblies - will always be open, will occur on-reserve AND in urban centres, and will be the ultimate authority in our governance process.

4) Authorities, Boards, and Committees (ABC) - will be open to the entire membership. We will meet at an AGM; and we will employ an open, transparent, and fair nomination process so that all members who want to participate can.

5) Virtual Reports - the pandemic taught us what I already knew - we have the tools to communicate broadly using technology to ensure our members are kept up-to-date.

Priority #1: Community Safety

At the Nomination Meeting, I was the only candidate to speak about .

We desperately need leadership to address our most urgent challenges: crime, drugs, gangs, and dogs.

1) We need a community-lead where the solutions to our most urgent issues come from our people.

2) We need trained and equipped Community Safety Officers with a mandate to identify problem behaviors and locations, and proactively prevent crime.

3) We need full-time, trained, and equipped Emergency Management and Fire Departments – because our safety isn’t part-time or seasonal.

4) We need to address the simplest issue affecting our safety: stray dogs. We need to round ‘em up, get them to their owners, or bring them to the SPCA or a vet.

5) We need to provide our access to consistent, creative, supervised, and structured activities that engage them emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically.

6) We need a Council Task Force to lead all these initiatives and to report to the membership on the common sense solutions that can be implemented now!

Thank you my friend, Steph Clovechok, CEO of Discover Saskatoon for the endorsement!

"I have had the honour of working closely with Kevin and experiencing his vision for Beardy’s and Okemasis for close to 6 years now. When I first moved to Saskatoon, Kevin was one of the first people to invite me to his community which gifted me with the opportunity to immerse myself in the incredible opportunities to connect, discover and explore the beauty of Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation. Kevin has always demonstrated that his community is at the heart of everything he works towards.

The economic opportunity and cultural revitalization that Kevin is bringing to the community through tourism development is truly inspiring. His entrepreneurial spirit is accompanied by his focused mind and compassionate heart, ensuring that each opportunity is always evaluated on behalf of the greater good of the community. Kevin has represented his community and nation globally with deep integrity and poise. He embodies authentic, truthful and reliable leadership that I am incredibly fortunate to experience alongside his contagious passion. I wholeheartedly support Kevin in his campaign for Chief and know the community will benefit from his leadership."

Housing is the critical issue facing the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation today. 159 new homes are needed over the next 20 years, and 111 homes are over-crowded.

Governance of the Beardy's & Okemasis' Cree Nation must reflect the values of our community, the will of our people, and should always put families first.

Let's put families first, here's how we can do it:
