SUMMER NESTING BIRDS – with JODY ALLAIR
The Badlands Trail Society and Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site are excited to partner for a unique birding event on Sunday, June 14, 2026, combining birding with the rich history of the Atlas Coal Mine.

In the Drumheller Valley, peak nesting activity runs from mid-May through the end of July, so this event takes place right in the heart of the season. We hope to spot migratory species actively nesting and feeding their young.

Birding begins at 7:00 AM and will last about 2.5 hours.

Free to Atlas Coal Mine and Badlands Trail Society Members. Non-Members $30

Please register by emailing the Badlands Trail Society at [email protected] Limited spots, and these programs fill quickly.

Yesterday, we gathered at Miners' Memorial Park, located adjacent to Drumheller's Town Hall, for our annual May Day Miners Memorial.

Together, we remembered the 210 men and boys who lost their lives in the Drumheller Valley coal mines, the families forever changed by their loss, and the resilience of a community built through hardship, courage, and care for one another.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. Your presence matters. It ensures these stories continue to be remembered and shared. We’re especially grateful to our speakers, volunteers, and community partners who helped bring this important day together.

As we continue our work, we remain committed to preserving and sharing the stories of the Valley’s mining families, because they are the foundation of this place we call home.
