At the beginning of April, Mrs. Milson organized a Poetry Battle for Robina Baker students and staff. Just like a sports bracket, every day during assemblies, we were introduced to two poems by Mr. Eicheldinger! The poems all came from the New York Times bestselling book “Holes in My Underwear: Over 100 Poems That Will Knock Your Socks Off.”
Every day we voted on our favourite poem, and the winning poem moved on to the next round! Mrs. Milson’s Grade 3 class started as our readers and then other students volunteered to read the poems. As the battle heated up, staff joined in reading the final four. When the final two were head-to-head, Mr. Coffin and Mrs. Kirton read the poems. After a month of voting, we were able to crown “Swimming” as the winner!
Mrs. Milson reached out to Mr. Eicheldinger to let him know we were having so much fun reading his poems. He loved our Poetry Battle and wanted to meet all of us. So at a virtual assembly today, we got to meet the former middle school teacher and heard about how he writes and illustrates his poems and books. He encouraged all of us to follow our passions. What a unique opportunity for our school!
