Sonsie had some choice words for us when his favourite handler was off last week and the back up staff had to change his pool.

Sonsie came into care back in 2002 from the Yukon, found after falling from his nest and was rescued by kind members of the public. By the time he got to OWL he was too used to people to go back to the wild, and had a small break in the wing. In the years since becoming a Raptor ambassador, Sonsie has traveled to many events with his handler Rob, where they educate about raptors and how we can help them.

You can sponsor Sonsie here: https://www.owlrehab.org/raptor-ambassadors/

During our Open House, we received a call about an eagle who was covered in liquid cow manure. Luckily, a few kind farmers saw the bird and one even went to Canadian Tire to purchase a fishing net so he could net the bird out of the manure pit. They hosed off the bird but he still was unable to fly away so they put him in a safe spot and called OWL!
Our volunteers went to get him and noticed he had a brood patch meaning he is probably the father to some eaglets out there. We want to get parent birds back to their nest as soon as we can, but he required two full baths to get clean and improve his waterproofing. He was then moved to the test flight pen. Once he regained his fitness he was returned to the wild in just a few short days.

Thanks to the farmers and our volunteers for helping this bird out!
