Mayor Dober recently met with Ross and Cindy Ravelli at Creekside Courts in Kin Park to recognize the major partners who helped bring this project to life — including Ross and Cindy themselves.

A new bronze plaque at the courts recognizes the contributions of:
• Cindy and Ross Ravelli — Personal Contributions
• Lindberg Construction Inc. — General Contractor
• Northern Development Initiative Trust — Community Places Grant
• Pacific Economic Development Canada — Healthy Communities Initiative Program

This week, City Councillors are meeting with provincial ministers and representatives at the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Vancouver to advocate for priorities that matter to our residents, businesses, and region.

They'll be meeting with the following ministries and chatting about the following topics:
✅Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills
Topic: Strengthening Northern Training, Healthcare Pathways, and Workforce Readiness

✅Parliamentary Secretary for Mental Health and Addictions
Topic: Improved Access to Publicly Funded Mental Health Services

✅Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship

📣Mayor’s Update | August 24, 2026

At each Council meeting, Mayor Dober shares updates on meetings, partnerships and projects underway in Dawson Creek.

Highlights from today’s meeting:
✅ Salvation Army: Met with the new local area manager to discuss social services and connect them with City staff.

✅ Regional Crown Counsel: Met with Regional Crown Counsel and discussed opportunities to connect with Council, including during UBCM in September.

✅ MP Bob Zimmer: Discussed the Water Supply System Project and opportunities for continued advocacy.

✅ Ravelli Plaque: Ross and Cindy Ravelli were honoured with a bronze plaque recognizing their contributions to the Creekside Courts project. View the plaque at the Creekside Courts in Kin Park.

✅ Tourmaline Energy: Met with the Tourmaline Energy team to discuss local priorities and opportunities.

A few more highlights:
✅New banners are up downtown on 8 Street, and three new playgrounds are nearing completion. Thank you to the City team who has been working hard to get these items in place for our community.

✅Healthcare recruitment continues to show results, with three new family physicians confirmed and a goal of seven new doctors by fall 2027. An orthopaedic surgeon has also been recruited and will be joining the community soon.

It was great to meet with Tourmaline Oil at the Dawson Creek & District Memorial Arena yesterday!

Mayor Darcy Dober and Councillor Kyle MacDonald had the opportunity to connect with the Tourmaline team to discuss current and future projects and initiatives in our community.

Building strong relationships with local industry is an important part of creating opportunities and supporting the continued growth of Dawson Creek and the surrounding region. Thank you to Tourmaline for taking the time to meet with us. We look forward to continuing the conversation!

It’s exciting to see so much development happening in our downtown core, and even more exciting to see new daycare spaces being created. 👏

Council has been working to encourage more childcare options in our community for years, and a Vibrant Downtown was one of this Council’s Strategic Priorities.

Seeing these investments take shape is a great reminder that a vibrant downtown is about more than buildings — it’s about creating a community where people can live, work, grow and thrive.

What a weekend in Tumbler Ridge for the 26th annual Emperor’s Challenge! 🏃‍♂️⛰️

It was great to be there and see the incredible effort that goes into this event. Thank you to the District of Tumbler Ridge and all the volunteers who continue to make the Emperor’s Challenge such a great annual event for our region.

And a special shoutout to Dr. Helm, who has completed all 26 races. An incredible accomplishment! 👏

Events like this bring people together from across the Peace Region and beyond, and we’re lucky to have them in our backyard.

It was a real honour to be in Edmonton this past week with our City team for the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup and to present Hockey Canada with the Sport Tourism Canada International Sport Event of the Year – Group B award, recognizing the 2025 Para Cup hosted right here in Dawson Creek.

I was joined by CAO Kevin Henderson and General Manager of Community Services Ryan MacIvor as we met with Hockey Canada’s Dean McIntosh and Daniele Marchioro to celebrate this achievement.

While the award was presented to the City of Dawson Creek at the Sport Tourism Congress earlier this year, this recognition is just as much about the partnership we have built with Hockey Canada. For many years, Hockey Canada has trusted Dawson Creek to host major events that bring incredible athletes, visitors and opportunities to our community.

These events put Dawson Creek and the Peace Region on the national and international stage, while creating lasting benefits for our local economy, tourism sector and community.

A huge thank you to Hockey Canada, Sport Tourism Canada, our volunteers, sponsors, partners and everyone who helped make the 2025 Para Cup such a success.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to bringing even more world-class sport to Dawson Creek in the years ahead! 🏒

The Mayor provides updates at each Council meeting on meetings attended, partnerships, and projects underway. Highlights from the August 10, 2026 meeting include:

✅ Hockey Canada Sport Tourism Award Presentation: Mayor Dober and the City team attended the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in Edmonton alongside Hockey Canada representatives and presented Hockey Canada with the Sport Tourism Canada “International Sport Event of the Year” award, recognizing Dawson Creek’s hosting of the 2025 Para Cup. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the event’s success and Hockey Canada’s role in sport tourism in Dawson Creek.

✅ Fall Fair Parade & Dawson Creek Exhibition: A huge thank you to the organizations, volunteers and community members who make the Fall Fair Parade and rodeo week possible. The Dawson Creek Exhibition is one of our community’s signature events, bringing people together and welcoming visitors from across the region. We are proud to support its continued growth.

✅ Horse Barn Grand Opening: It was great to celebrate the new horse barn at Collins Exhibition Park and recognize the Northern Lights College students and instructors who helped build it. Thank you to the Dawson Creek Exhibition Association and everyone who supported this project. It was fantastic to see it come together from start to finish.

✅ Prospective Candidate Information Session: Thank you to the City and Peace River Regional District teams for hosting an information session for those considering running in the upcoming local election. We appreciate everyone who came out, asked questions and showed an interest in serving their community. Thank you also to Councillor Parslow and PRRD Director Rose for sharing their experience.

✅ Aboriginal Housing Management Association Meeting: AHMA met with Mayor and City staff, alongside the Nawican Friendship Centre, to discuss concerns and opportunities related to the Nawican Emergency Shelter. AHMA shared the findings of its review and its commitment to supporting positive changes. We appreciate AHMA and the Nawican Friendship Centre for listening to concerns, developing solutions and communicating those changes with us.
