The Toni Hryciuk Walk for Hospice is coming up on Saturday, September 19, and we would love to see our community come together in support of the South Peace Hospice Palliative Care Society.

This walk is for everyone — bring your family, invite a friend, honour someone you love, or simply come out to support your local Hospice Society. Walk the full route, walk a little, or just join us for the gathering. Your presence truly makes a difference.

Sometimes, group work looks like kids playing games, chatting, laughing, or simply enjoying an activity together. But underneath it all, some really important learning is happening. 💛

Our groups provide children with a safe and supportive space to practice the skills they need to navigate friendships, school, family relationships, and everyday life.

Through group activities, children are building skills like:

🗣️ Communication- expressing thoughts and feelings, listening to others, and practicing back-and-forth conversations.

🤝 Social Skills- taking turns, sharing ideas, joining in, and working through disagreements.

💛 Emotional Awareness- recognizing emotions in themselves and others and learning that all feelings are okay, even when some behaviors aren’t helpful.

🧩 Problem Solving- working through challenges, considering different perspectives, and finding solutions together.

🌱 Confidence & Self-Esteem- experiencing success, trying new things, contributing to a group, and recognizing their own strengths.

🫶 Connection & Belonging- discovering that they aren’t alone in the things they find challenging and that meaningful relationships can be built.

Most importantly, children are learning that social and emotional skills are skills we can practice and grow.

We don’t expect children to automatically know how to navigate every friendship, conflict, big feeling, or social situation. We give them opportunities to practice in a space where mistakes are okay, support is available, and growth is celebrated.

Because sometimes the most important learning happens while they’re playing, connecting, laughing, and simply being themselves. 💛
