Wow, that was fun. Thanks to all the budding and super talented creators of all ages who made our Graphic Novel Workshop such a success — and such a blast. We're looking forward to seeing more great work from you in the future. And stay tuned for more Library programming this fall.

Just a reminder that Berton House Writer-in-Residence Cody Caetano is giving an author talk TONIGHT at 7 pm at the Library. Cody is a writer and literary agent based in Toronto. His debut memoir, Half-Bads in White Regalia, received the 2023 Indigenous Voices Award for Best Published Prose, among other accolades. While in Dawson he's been writing up a storm on a new novel.

Please join us on Tuesday 11 August at 7 p.m. for an author reading by current Berton House Writer-in-Residence Cody Caetano.

Cody is a writer and literary agent from the Pinaymootang First Nation. His memoir, Half-Bads in White Regalia, won the 2023 Indigenous Voices Award for Best Published Prose, was shortlisted for the 2023 Edna Staebler Award, and longlisted for the 2023 Toronto Book Award, the 2023 Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour, and Canada Reads 2023. It was named one of the best books of the year by The Globe and Mail and CBC Books. Excerpts of the manuscript received the 2020 Indigenous Voices Award for Best Unpublished Prose. While in Dawson, Cody is at work on a novel.

Helen is an Indigenous spoken word poet, grassroots activist, leader and social worker from the Prophet River First Nation. She is of Dane-Zaa, Nehiyaw, Métis, and European descent. Helen has published a number of poems, short pieces of creative non-fiction, and is the author of two best-selling books, In My Own Moccasins and Becoming a Matriarch.

Helen’s second book, Becoming a Matriarch, was released in August 2023 and was a National Best Seller, going on to win the Jim Deva BC Yukon Book Prize, was a finalist for a 2024 Governor Generals Award in Non-Fiction, and long listed for Canada Reads 2025.
