Let's talk Craft District

The Craft District is an initiative focused on the continued revitalization of downtown Dauphin. The vision is to create a destination that is welcoming, accessible, vibrant, and reflective of our community's unique character while supporting local businesses and enhancing the downtown experience for residents and visitors alike.

A few facts about the project:

✔️ 2nd Avenue NW will remain open to vehicle traffic, just as it is today.

✔️ Parking will continue to be available along the street.

✔️ Improved loading areas and accessibility features are being incorporated to better serve businesses, customers, and residents.

✔️ A new pedestrian crossing in the middle of the block will provide a safer and more convenient connection for people moving throughout downtown.

✔️ Wider sidewalks will improve accessibility for families, seniors, and individuals using mobility aids.

✔️ The project is designed to support existing businesses while creating a more attractive, comfortable, and inviting public space.

Looking ahead, planned improvements include:

🌳 Additional trees and landscaping.

💡 Enhanced pedestrian-scale lighting.

🪑 Benches, seating areas, and gathering spaces.

🎨 Public art, Indigenous art installations, and murals that celebrate our community's culture and history.

✨ Additional placemaking features that help create a downtown people are proud to visit, shop in, and enjoy.

Projects like this are investments in the long-term health and vitality of our community. They help to support local businesses, encourage private investment, attract visitors, improve accessibility and safety, and create vibrant public spaces that bring people together.

The Craft District builds upon more than 25 years of downtown revitalization efforts, including the restoration of the historic CN Station, the development of City Hall, improvements to CN Park, storefront enhancement programs, and streetscape improvements throughout the downtown core.

We look forward to continuing the conversation and sharing additional information with businesses, residents, and stakeholders as the project progresses.

The Dauphin City Centre Criterium is happening this Sunday, May 31, bringing exciting bike racing action to downtown Dauphin.

To accommodate the event, the race route will be closed to traffic from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with races taking place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The route will begin and end at Obsolete Brewing Company and will travel along:
• 2nd Avenue NW
• 2nd Street NW
• 1st Avenue NW
• Main Street N
• Back along 2nd Avenue NW

Beginning June 1, the City of Dauphin will launch a new recycling awareness campaign focused on improving recycling habits, reducing contamination, and addressing ongoing misuse of the City’s recycling program.

In recent years, the amount of recyclable material collected through Dauphin’s recycling program, including curbside recycling, has declined. At the same time, contamination in both curbside recycling and at the Residential Recycling Depot on 1st Avenue SE, along with improper dumping at the site, has continued to increase.

Throughout the campaign, residents can expect regular information regarding:
- What can and cannot be recycled
- Changes to the Residential Recycling Depot
- Common contamination issues
- How contamination impacts operations and program costs

Starting June 1, changes will also be introduced at the Residential Recycling Depot on 1st Avenue SE to simplify operations, reduce misuse, and improve site cleanliness.

The success of any recycling program depends on community participation. Residents are encouraged to review their recycling habits and help reduce contamination by ensuring only accepted materials are recycled.

This Saturday, shoppers will have plenty to explore across Dauphin with an incredible 169 registered yard sale locations taking part!

Witnesses say porch lights were left on, valuables were removed from vehicles, and multiple exterior doors were secured before bedtime.

🌱 UPDATE: Tree planting at Vermillion Park Sportsplex will begin at 10:00 AM tomorrow (Wednesday, May 27) once the tree stock arrives!

Volunteers are welcome to come help throughout the day until approximately 3:00 PM. Whether you can stop by for an hour or stay longer, any help is greatly appreciated!

We’re continuing to look for volunteers this week to help with tree planting at Vermillion Park Sportsplex!

Planting is taking place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and volunteers are welcome to stop by for any amount of time. Whether you can help for the full day, just the morning (9:00 a.m. to noon), the afternoon (1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.), or even only an hour or two, any help is greatly appreciated.

This project will help grow shade and wind protection for the Sportsplex while also helping stabilize the river forest.

Please bring:
💦 Water
🧤 Gardening/work gloves
🪏 A shovel if available
