Dauphin Fire Department Serving the Citizens For Over A Century ~ 2026 Marked Our 125th Anniversary Thank you for visiting and have a safe day!

Dispatched via the Provincial 911 system, we are a paid call fire service with a complement of 36 front line firefighters; trained to Level I and II Firefighter; NFPA 1001 – Standard for Professional Firefighter Qualifications. The Dauphin Fire Department serves the citizens of both the City and Rural Municipality of Dauphin covering an approximate area of 1,036 square kilometers and a population

of 10,845 (2016 census). We respond to incidents in the City and surrounding municipality including fires (of any type), motor vehicle collisions, rescues, water rescue as well as basic hazardous materials calls. The Dauphin Fire Department works closely with the members of the Sifton Fire Department located approximately 30 kilometers north of the City of Dauphin. The history of the Dauphin Fire Department goes all the way back to 1901 when the first organized Fire Brigade was established. The first piece of apparatus was a horse drawn pump, which was sold after the Town of Dauphin purchased its first motorized piece of firefighting apparatus, a 1917 Chevrolet 490. The 1917, along with a 1936 Pumper, have been restored by the Firefighter’s Association and hold a special place of distinction as showpieces of the Department. Our Firefighter’s Association performs many volunteer duties to raise donations from the community, with which they purchase much needed equipment and donate back to the Fire Department. The Dauphin Fire Department is also involved throughout the year in Public Education, Fire and Life Safety Inspections, and Pre-Incident Planning. If you require any additional information regarding the services we provide, or just have a general inquiry, please feel free contact us.

Shortly after 3:00 am this morning (Monday June 01), DFD received a report of general fire alarms sounding at Happy Haven located at 116 Whitmore Avenue West.

Upon arrival, fire fighters were met by tenants who had evacuated the building reporting that a mobility scooter was on fire in the hallway outside of a suite. Crews entered and were able to extinguish the fire quickly, then removed the scooter outside of the building.

During this time crews noticed heavy smoke coming from the hallway opposite of the entrance they had come through. They quickly turned their attention to the second fire and called for additional resources.

The second fire was located in the apartment block’s mail room causing significant damage to the space. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the second fire and thoroughly inspected for any extension into the void space above.

Fire fighters then went room by room to check on the personal safety of the tenants who were unable to evacuate on their own due to mobility concerns.

Once the entire building had been ventilated to remove the smoke, fire fighters and paramedics went with property management to check on the well being of any tenants who may have health concerns.

This incident is suspicious in nature with two separate fires being located inside the apartment complex. Both fires were located in the public areas of the building and involved an individual or individuals, intentionally lighting materials on fire.

There are no estimates on the cost of the damages at this time and there were no injuries reported as a result of the fires. If anyone has any information related to this incident, please contact the RCMP at (204) 622-5050.

During the first quarter (January 01 to March 30) of 2026, DFD responded to a total of 60 emergency responses. This is a 23% increase over the same time period last year. While the number of incidents do vary from year to year, we do see an increase over the past 20 years (2005 to 2025).

We would also like to acknowledge the following members for their dedication and commitment with the department. Gary Hollyoake, Alvin Bogoslowski, Greg Acevedo and Jordon Steiner each have 100% attendance for weekly training for the first quarter. As well, Gary, Alvin, Ken Ushkowski, Greg, and Jesse Shuttleworth have the top 5 attendance at calls for the first quarter.

Congratulations folks, and thank you for everything you continue to do for the department and our community.

A little nostalgia courtesy of Raymond McQuarrie today! Once upon a time, the Dauphin Fire Department had a curling team and travelled for the Firefighters Bonspiel as well.

This is a welcome addition to the archives for the Department, thank you Raymond for sharing this back to the FD!

At approximately 3:15 pm on Monday March 30, DFD was dispatched for a report of a kitchen fire in the 200 block of 4th Avenue North East.

Upon arrival it was found the occupants were out of the home, but they reported two pets were still inside. Crews made entry and were able to extinguish the fire quickly, then turn their attention to locating the pets. Once they were located, they were both brought out of the structure and turned over to the homeowners who rushed them to the veterinarian for smoke inhalation.

The fire is accidental in nature, due to unattended cooking. There are no estimates on damages at this time.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires. We would like to take this time to remind everyone to stay present; remain in the kitchen while frying, grilling or boiling food. As well, turn off appliances if you must leave the room for any reason.
