Once again, the Mount Baker Wild girls basketball team came out on top, defeating the Cranbrook Fire Fighters 48-39 in the annual WildFire Basketball Game.
Thanks to the tremendous community support, the event was a big success for the cause. Between the WildFire Basketball Game and a generous $500 donation from A&W Cranbrook, a total of $931.26 was raised for the Burn Fund.
Thank you to the Mount Baker Wild, A&W Cranbrook, everyone who came out to support the game, and all those who continue to support the Burn Fund and the important work it does.

Cranbrook Fire Emergency Services responded to multiple 911 calls on Monday night (April 27, 2026) reporting a fully involved structure fire just after 6:00pm on the 300 block of 7th Avenue South in Cranbrook.

The on-duty shift responded with five members and two fire engines. Upon arrival, crews found a single-family residence fully involved in flames on a busy street in a high traffic neighbourhood. Additional firefighters were paged from home and responded to assist with fire suppression and scene operations.

Firefighters were challenged by aggressive fire conditions throughout the property, during a very busy time of day with significant vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area. Crews worked efficiently and safely to bring the fire under control and successfully extinguish it. The Fire Department was supported by members of the RCMP, who were challenged with the volume of onlookers. In addition, the BC Ambulance Service assisted with our safety throughout the operation, and we are thankful for the continued support of our partner agencies.

There were no reported injuries to occupants, pets, or firefighters as a result of the incident. Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services is thankful that no one was injured; however, the incident has resulted in significant losses for the homeowners.

“This is a very difficult and emotional time for the homeowners and their family,” says Fire Chief Scott Driver. “On behalf of the Cranbrook Fire Department, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to those affected by this fire as they begin the process of recovery.”

Fire investigation activities are continuing today, and the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.

Great teamwork in action! On Wednesday, April 8, members of the Cranbrook Fire Department joined forces with BC Wildfire Service crews for their annual forestry cross-training day. Together, they shared knowledge on response tactics, crew roles, and equipment, all while strengthening how they work side-by-side during wildland and wildland urban interface fires.

One of the most valuable parts of the day? Building strong relationships that make a real difference when responding to emergencies together. To wrap things up, wildfire personnel even got hands-on experience with structural firefighting—an exciting way to learn and grow across teams!

We’re proud of the collaboration and dedication shown by everyone involved in keeping our community safe.
