Students from several schools recently gathered at Lake Trail Community School for the annual Code Quest Arcade, a celebration of creativity, coding and digital learning.

The arcade showcased an impressive range of student-created projects, including Scratch games and animations, Minecraft coding worlds, robotics projects and other innovative digital creations. Throughout the event, students proudly shared their work with peers, explained how their projects were built and invited others to test and play their creations.

The energy in the room was incredible. Students were deeply engaged not only in presenting their own projects, but also in exploring, supporting and learning from the work of others. From problem-solving and storytelling to game design and coding, the event highlighted the many ways students are developing valuable skills through technology and creative thinking.

A big thank you to the organizers, staff and students who helped make this year's Code Quest Arcade such a success. Events like this showcase the curiosity, collaboration and innovation happening in our classrooms every day.

Well done to all of the young coders, creators and game designers who shared their talents and inspired others through their work.

A group of students at Arden Elementary have been busy practicing their jigging skills with Kookum Sheila Buchanan as they prepare for upcoming community performances.

The students have been learning the Red River Jig and other favourites, building confidence, connection and joy through dance under Kookum Sheila's guidance.

You can catch their performance on Saturday, June 20 at 3 p.m. at the Comox Exhibition Grounds as part of the National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations. If you're unable to attend, you'll have another opportunity to see them perform during the Canada Day celebrations at Lewis Park on June 30.

Throughout June, Comox Valley Schools is honouring National Indigenous History Month and recognizing National Indigenous Peoples Day through learning opportunities, celebrations and activities that highlight the cultures, histories, contributions and achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.

We invite our community to come out and support these talented students as they share their learning through song and dance.

Highland Secondary recently unveiled a new logo with a celebration of culture, learning and community, marking an important milestone in the school's journey.

The school and guests gathered for a special ceremony to celebrate the new design, which was created by former Highland graduate Karver Everson.

The event featured a powerful performance by the Kumugwe Dancers, including several Highland alumni, helping make the occasion especially meaningful.

We thank everyone who helped make this memorable event possible

Inspired by Highland's Kwak̓wala name, I'katsi ("place up high"), the logo features an eagle perched atop a house, symbolizing learning, knowledge, growth, protection and community.
