Consumer product recall: Vornado SRTH Small Room Tower Heater recalled due to fire hazard.

Vornado recently determined that the fan blade can become displaced or detached from the motor shaft over time, which can cause a slow or stopped fan condition that can lead to overheating and the potential for melting of the enclosure and potential internal ignition. If the thermal safeties do not timely activate to cut power, an internal flame may breach the heater’s enclosure, posing a potential fire hazard.

Members of the St. Clair Township Fire Department played a key role in this week’s BASES Emergency Response Simulation Exercise, held Thursday in Point Edward.

Our Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), commonly known as drones, were deployed and operated by our task force team during a simulated emergency involving an overturned tanker truck and spill to the St. Clair River.

The annual coordinated exercise brings together municipal and industrial partners to test emergency plans, equipment, and personnel in a safe, controlled environment. It helps identify opportunities for improvement and ensures effective communication systems are in place to notify workers and the community during an emergency.

Did you know smoke alarms expire? Over time, the internal sensors in both hard-wired and battery-operated smoke alarms degrade and become less reliable.

Most smoke alarms have an end-of-life of about 10 years, but always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific unit.

Don’t wait—check your smoke alarms today and replace it if it is past its service life.

Can you find the fire hydrant in these pictures?

Hidden or obstructed fire hydrants can pose a danger to your family, neighbours, and responding firefighters. When firefighters respond to an emergency, every second counts. A fire hydrant hidden by fences, shrubs, or other landscaping can delay access to a critical water supply.

If there is a fire hydrant on or near your property, help keep it visible and accessible by keeping the area around it clear. A few minutes of yard maintenance can make a big difference during an emergency.
