This coming weekend, the Washington State Patrol and local Law Enforcement agencies in Clallam County will be operating speed and impaired driving interdiction patrols in the Port Angeles area. The goal is to prevent the two leading causation factors of fatal crashes. After all, during the last five years (2017-2021), we had 63 deaths on the Olympic Peninsula from collisions.

Together, we all can contribute to safe driving culture (by example, by encouragement, by teaching our youth) to assure that each of us and our loved ones travel safely this Holiday Season. You, your family, your neighbors, your friends, your community—are worth it!

Saturday, October 29th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Clallam County Courthouse — National Prescription Medication Takeback.

Free event where you can anonymously dispose of your unwanted/unused prescription medications. Va**ng pens and cartridges will also be accepted (please remove batteries), however sites cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches

Last April, local citizens turned in 258 lbs of unused/unwanted medications!

Traffic Safety Patrols during THING event at Fort Worden

On the evenings of August 26th and 27th, 2022, local law enforcement agencies from Clallam and Jefferson Counties will engage in a DUI traffic safety emphasis patrol in the Port Townsend area during an event titled “THING.” The Washington State Patrol’s Mobile Impaired Driving Unit will be present to assist with impaired driver processing.

THING will be hosted at Fort Worden on August 26-28 and will feature live music, food venders, and market venders. Market venders will include cannabis products. Large attendance is anticipated, which will increase pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

If you see unsafe or possibly impaired driving, keep yourself safe and call 911. Also, do your best to prevent anyone you know from driving impaired.

We’ll be there just in case, but we hope for the best case scenario—everyone has a plan, recreates safely, and no one is injured!

Everyone wants their friends and family to get home safe when they drive.

The Sequim lavender Festival is under way this weekend! Extra patrols will be out during the festival to counter impaired driving.

Why do we care? Our Olympic Peninsula community experiences an average of 11 deaths per year in traffic crashes. More than half of those involve impaired drivers, with cannabis and multiple-substance impairments on the rise.

Fortunately, the Montana State University Center for Health and Safety’s 2018 survey found that most people care; 83% of adults believe it is unacceptable to drive within two hours of consuming alcohol or cannabis. Also, 80% of adults in a situation to intervene take action to prevent impaired driving.

Tragedy is preventable; it begins with each one of us. For yourself, have a safety plan (sober driver or a place to stay). For others, be a friend — help someone who is impaired and about to drive make a safer alternative decision. If your intervention does not succeed, call 911 and we will try to intervene before tragedy strikes.

Together, we can make a safe festival.
