To our SAR colleagues in Ballina, N.S.W., https://www.facebook.com/MarineRescue

On behalf of Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 60 Comox, Canada we extend our deepest condolences on the loss of your two members and the sailor involved.

There are no words that can fully capture the weight of this loss. Your teammates were part of a community built on courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to saving lives on the water. They stood the watch when others could not, and their dedication to the safety of those on the water will never be forgotten.

As fellow SAR volunteers, we understand the bond that forms among crew members — the trust, the shared purpose, and the quiet understanding that comes with answering the call, day or night. The loss of two such individuals is felt far beyond your station; it resonates across all of us who serve.

Please know that you are not alone in this. We stand with you in grief, in remembrance, and in honouring their service. Their legacy lives on in every life saved, every mission undertaken, and in the strength of the community they helped build.

Our thoughts are with their families, your crew, and all those whose lives they touched.

With deepest respect and solidarity

🌊 A special message for National Volunteer Week 2026. 🇨🇦
This week, we are throwing a well-deserved spotlight on the incredible men and women of RCM•SAR Station 60 Comox. The heroic graphic featured here, showing our rescue vessel and crew, represents the standard of excellence they bring to every single mission.
What does it take to serve our community? To our volunteers, you don't just "show up." You are professionals who risk your lives, and your dedication is unparalleled.

Every year, you commit to a relentless schedule:
📅 120+ hours ON CALL per month per volunteer (24/7/365).
🚤 Intensive training at least once a month for each volunteer (contributing to a massive 500 hours of station training this past year!).
🔧 Dozens of hours spent on boat maintenance—our crew does the work themselves to ensure that when we are called out, we are ready for the mission.
🌊 And that’s all before the phone rings for a real-world call on the water.

Your sacrifice means lives are saved, families are reunited, and our waters are a safer place.

We also want to salute all the other dedicated volunteers in Comox, the Comox Valley, and across the globe. To the firefighters, paramedics, search and rescue personnel from other stations, and every community helper: Thank you. We are stronger together.

To the Station 60 crew: We see you. We appreciate you. We salute you.

RCMSAR VOLUNTEERS IN ACTION
Behind Every Number is a Story
Last year, more than 950 volunteers gave their time and energy to make sure people came
home safely after spending time on the water. They responded to distress calls, invested their
time in on-water and classroom training, shared boating safety tips at community events, and
even helped with local fundraisers. Each hour they gave was driven by the same goal: saving
lives on the water.

A thoughtful reminder of how inclusion strengthens the entire marine community.

Strong crews start with inclusion!

On a recent patrol, more than half of the CCGS Tanu’s crew were women, serving across leadership and operational roles onboard.

In a traditionally male-dominated industry, this crew is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and the strength that diversity brings at sea.

Representation matters, and seeing women at every level of leadership onboard is the kind of progress worth celebrating.

Here’s to a year of strong seas, strong teams, and even stronger inclusion!
