The Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum, AKA "the farm", is an original Cole Harbour farm, cultivated continuously for over 200 years. It seeks to actively involve the public in awareness and protection of our natural and cultural resources and foster appreciation and respect for community - past, present, and future. The Farm is open five days a week from May 15 to October 15 every year. From May to October, there is a variety of animals on site usually including sheep, lambs, chickens and chicks, ducklings, and calves. During hours of operation feel free to come and visit the farm and the animals, admission is by donation or book a group tour! (Contact the farm for booking information)

We are always available for enquiries and appointments may be made for research.

Everyone has a story. How can you make that story a good one so that people will want to listen to it?…by learning skills and techniques in the art of oral storytelling. Join Halifax Storyteller, Cindy Campbell-Stone, in this fun and engaging workshop at the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum.

Thursday, Oct. 8 | 6:30-9:00 PM

A storytelling booklet is provided. There will also be a draw for a storytelling book.

Cindy is a storyteller, singer and performer from Nova Scotia with family roots in Prince Edward Island. She has been telling stories to audiences of all ages for over forty years. Cindy likes to include songs or rhymes in her performances and has been known to add musical surprises in her stories.

Visit us from Wednesday-Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm to shop for unique handmade items, locally written and published books, farm clothing, hand-forged items, preserves, and more!

New in the shop this week are orange lantern bouquets from CHRHS member & volunteer, Nora Gross and lavender sprays from our gardens. Each only $10.

As a reminder, the Tea Room will only be open for dine-in service on Saturdays & Sunday for the remainder of the season.

Join Katherine Carey in this special workshop at the farm museum to learn how flax plants are transformed into linen fibre, ready for spinning, weaving, and knitting, using traditional tools.

Thursday, Oct. 1 | 4-6 PM | $25

Participants will take home fibre flax seeds for planting in their own gardens!

Katherine is a knitter, spinner, dyer, and farmer who is focused on how textiles go from earth to garment, using traditional tools and technologies.

Thanks so much for joining us for A Walk in the Park! It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday to spend time together on the trails!

We were thrilled to see hundreds of walkers and cyclists passing through both the Heritage Park and the Salt Marsh Trail.

Together we raised just about $3000 to support our work to protect and promote Cole Harbour's natural and cultural heritage.

We will be sharing 20% of the proceeds with our friends at the Cole Harbour Parks and Trails Association, who we are so grateful to work with. We could not have held this event without their support and trail expertise.

Happy Monday, Farm Friends! As many of you know, the Rose & Kettle will be shifting to our weekly take-out service a few weeks early this year. We're so excited to share our first menu of the season with you!

Our famous lasagna is up for grabs. We're thrilled to be able to offer increased quantities of our mains this year. Also available this week: hearty potato leek soup (made with our own potatoes) and indulgent white chicken chili.

Popular cheddar & chive biscuits are available as always, in addition to tender pumpkin scones served with rich maple butter.

Please read - follow-up about the Rose & Kettle Tea Room.

Our little team has taken time to discuss our options for the next few weeks, and have decided on the following hybrid Tea Room plan for the remainder of the season.

Here is what you can expect:

-We will be open tomorrow and Sunday for dine-in service, and on weekends for the remainder of the season.

-We will be simplifying the daily menu so that weekend service can be carried out by just two staff.

-We won't have a daily sandwich, but will still have all the other offerings you've come to know and love, like our soups, cream tea, savoury scones, desserts, and wide selection of house made beverages.

-We will not be open for dine-in service Wednesday-Friday for the remainder of the season.

-We will launch our popular fall/winter 'Rose & Kettle To-go" early, starting on Monday (Sept 14).

-Our online shop opens on Mondays at noon, closes on Thursdays at noon, and you can pick-up your food orders on Fridays from 12-4. We promote this weekly on Facebook and Instagram, or you can check on our website starting Monday.

Thank you for your understanding and support this week. We look forward to seeing you at the farm again soon.

It may be rainy today, but the forecast is looking perfect for A Walk in the Park. 20⁰ and sunny!

Join us this Saturday, Sept 12 from 10-3 at the Cole Harbour Heritage Park and Salt Marsh Trail for our annual family-friendly walk-a-thon!

Enjoy routes from 1-13 km, scavenger hunts, and engaging Education Stations along the trails.

Registration is pay-what-you-can, or you can collect pledges from your friends and family to maximize your impact. We have excellent prizes for the top fundraiser and top fundraising group!

All proceeds support the Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society and Cole Harbour Parks and Trails Association.
