Did you know that the RDNO allocates annual grant funding that is available to community organizations that are intending to provide a festival, event, or project featuring arts and/or culture-based elements for the benefit of Greater Vernon residents 🎨 Eligible organizations need not be from the arts and culture sector, but the project must have an arts or culture focus 🖌️

Wildfire resilience starts right at home, and Cherryville residents are showing what community action looks like in practice.

Recently, a group of residents came together to complete FireSmart work on their properties, reducing wildfire fuels and helping to create safer, more resilient homes and neighborhoods. Once the work was done, the RDNO FireSmart Chipping Program helped take care of the debris. This local success story is a great reminder that small actions add up, and working together can make a big difference.

As we reflect on another active wildfire season, now is the perfect time to take action. Use the fall and winter months to tackle FireSmart projects, plan for larger improvements, and prepare for next season.

Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail Shoreline Stabilization Work Begins September 14 👇

🚧 Rail Trail Shoreline Stabilization Work Begins September 14

Shoreline stabilization work along the Splatsin te Secwépemc / Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail is scheduled to begin Monday, September 14, between Folland Road and Rosemond Lake Bridge.

During construction, public access to the Mara Lake section of the Rail Trail between Sicamous and Mara will be limited to weekends. Crews will work to clear the trail and move equipment off the trail as much as possible each Friday to allow for weekend use.

The Sicamous Ferry shuttle will continue operating on weekends through the Thanksgiving long weekend, wrapping up October 12. The 21 kilometres of Rail Trail currently open between Enderby, Grindrod and Mara will remain available for use.

Please be advised that starting this week, the RDNO Fire Training Centre will be resuming its required training sessions. Please be advised that smoke may be visible at the top of Pottery Road and the surrounding area during these exercises.
