🐾Responsible Dog Ownership Month 🐾
💙 You’ve adopted your new best friend… now what?
Bringing home a shelter dog is an exciting moment, but those first few days can be a big adjustment for both of you. Your new pup is getting used to a completely new environment, routine, and people... a little patience can go a long way!
Here are a few ways to help your new dog settle in and feel at home: 🐾
✨ Give them time to decompress. Let them settle in and get comfortable at their own pace.
🏡 Start small. Give them a quiet, comfortable space where they can retreat when they need a break.
💙 Let them come to you. Don’t rush affection or interactions, building trust takes time!
🕐 Create a routine. Consistent meals, walks, potty breaks, and bedtime can help them feel secure.
🐾 Take introductions slowly. New people, pets, and places don’t all need to happen at once.
🧠 Be patient while they learn. Nervousness, accidents, barking, or unexpected behaviors can happen while they adjust.
❤️ Every dog is different. Some settle in quickly, while others need months, or longer to truly feel at home.
Bringing your shelter dog home is just the beginning. Give them the time, patience, and love they need to learn that they’re finally home. 🏠🐾
