Why Pride Month Matters in Libraries?

Ensuring Visible Representation: Displays and reading lists ensure 2SLGBTQI+ individuals see their own lived experiences reflected on library shelves.
Upholding Intellectual Freedom: Highlighting q***r literature directly counters censorship and book challenges that disproportionately target diverse stories.
Providing Crucial Resources: Public libraries offer safe, free access to life-saving health, legal, and community support resources for q***r youth and adults.
Fostering Inclusive Community: Hosting inclusive programming builds a sense of belonging and helps neighbors connect with, understand, and learn from one another.
Preserving Q***r History: Libraries archive the history of the pride movement, keeping the struggles, triumphs, and stories of local activists alive for future generations.

Just a friendly reminder to do our survey.

Public surveys for libraries are helpful because they allow libraries to gather valuable feedback from their patrons about their needs, preferences, and satisfaction with library services. By collecting this data, libraries can identify gaps in service, assess user satisfaction, and prioritize program offerings based on community input. This process helps libraries enhance their programs and better serve their communities, ultimately leading to increased engagement and participation.

This Mother’s Day weekend, Ontario is offering families a chance to cast a line and enjoy the outdoors together for free. From May 9 to 10, Canadian residents can fish in Ontario without purchasing a licence or Outdoors Card.

“Fishing is a great way for families to make unforgettable memories while enjoying the outdoors,” said Mike Harris, Minister of Natural Resources. “Free fishing weekends are an opportunity to check out Ontario’s top‑notch fishing and take part in a timeless tradition that brings people together right across the province.”

Recreational fishing is a key part of Ontario’s economy, supporting local tourism and jobs in communities across the province. Free fishing opportunities like Mother’s Day weekend provide a chance for people to learn more about fishing on Ontario’s lakes and rivers.

If you are fishing for free during the Mother’s Day weekend, all conservation licence catch and size limits, sanctuaries and all other fishing regulations still apply.

This Mother’s Day weekend, Canadian residents can enjoy free fishing across Ontario — a perfect way to spend quality time together on the water.

When fishing for free, remember to:
• follow conservation licence catch limits
• obey size limits and sanctuaries
• follow fishing regulations
• carry government-issued identification

Sustainable Futures at Wollaston Public Library

Libraries have always been the original "circular economy." We share resources, reduce waste by lending instead of selling, and provide a cool space for everyone during heatwaves. This Earth Day, we invite you to look past the bookshelves.
Every book you borrow instead of buy saves energy and resources. But more importantly, every book you read about our planet plants a seed of change. From gardening guides to climate science, we have the tools you need to turn inspiration into action. This April 22nd, join us as we celebrate the Earth by learning how to protect it.

And the CBC Canada Reads 2026 winner is... The Cure for Drowning 🎉📚

Evocative and magical are just a few words to describe this book. It’s not only a boundary-pushing love story but a Canadian historical novel that centres q***r and non-binary characters in unprecedented ways.

Congratulations to author Loghan Paylor and Tegan Quin who championed the title 👏
