Notice water pooling on roads, driveways or greenspaces after heavy rainfall?
With rain in the forecast, residents may notice temporary ponding in some areas of town. In many cases, this is normal and part of Cochrane's stormwater management system.
Some neighbourhoods are located near trap lows — specially designed areas that temporarily store runoff during heavy rain events. These systems allow water to collect on streets and nearby greenspaces while directing it safely away from homes and foundations.
While water may extend onto portions of driveways, lawns or roadways, trap lows are functioning as intended.
If standing water has not drained within 24 hours after rainfall ends, please contact Cochrane Operations at 403-851-2590.

⚠️ High streamflow advisory in effect for the Bow River
Water levels on the Bow River are expected to rise significantly over the coming days due to increased snowmelt and forecasted rainfall. A high streamflow advisory is in effect from upstream of Banff to Ghost Reservoir.
Please use extreme caution near the river:
• Stay away from flooded areas, pathways and riverbanks
• Keep children and pets well back from the water's edge
• Respect all pathway closures
• Avoid using watercraft on the Bow River at this time
Fast-moving water, submerged debris, slippery banks and unstable embankments create dangerous conditions.
🚨 If an emergency occurs on or near the river, call 911 immediately. Do not enter the water or attempt a rescue.
Residents may also notice water pooling on roads, driveways, lanes and greenspaces during upcoming rainfall. In many cases, this is normal and part of Cochrane's stormwater management system. Areas near trap lows are designed to temporarily store runoff and direct water safely away from homes.
If standing water has not drained within 24 hours after rainfall ends, contact Cochrane Operations at 403-851-2590.

Well, Cochrane… you really dug this event. 🌱

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to our Compost Giveaway Event this past weekend and helped make it such a success. The turnout was incredible. Thanks to your enthusiasm, all available compost was scooped up in record time.

Because the event was so well attended, this is the only free compost giveaway day that will be held this year.

We’re grateful to our community for continuing to support initiatives that promote sustainability, waste diversion and greener gardens across Cochrane. (Your plants are lucky to have you. 🌿)

🌱 A big weekend for Mitford Park

The annual Branches and Banks community planting gave Mitford Park a major green boost, with nearly 180 volunteers over two days helping plant close to 2,850 native trees and shrubs.

Thank you to the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee, Trans Canada Trail, West Fraser, Wright Nursery and For Trees for their contributions to this year’s planting.

We’re also grateful to the many volunteers who came out to lend a hand, including local schools, Garmin, Trans Canada Trail’s Planting for Tomorrow program, Guides, Scouts and other community members.

Thank you to everyone who helped strengthen this natural area for years to come. 💚
