FYI to Residents and Visitors

With warming temperatures, ice conditions can change quickly and may not be safe, posing a risk to you and first responders. Use caution around all lakes, ponds, and rivers.

For your safety:
- Stay off lakes, rivers, and ponds
- Keep kids and pets close and away from shorelines and open water
- Avoid areas with moving water, inlets/outlets, cracks, pressure ridges, or slushy/grey ice

If someone breaks through the ice: Call 911 immediately. Do not attempt a rescue from the ice. Use a rope, extension cord, or long branch from the shore.

Starting March 1, fire permits will be required for all burning in the Forest Protection Area, excluding campfires. Fire permits can be requested online, in person, or over the phone. Lithium-ion batteries – Don’t go up in smoke!

Lithium-ion battery fires are becoming increasingly common in Canada. These fires are often caused by improper charging or mishandling of batteries and are notoriously difficult to extinguish.

Lithium–ion battery fires in larger, more powerful rechargeable products, like e-bikes, e-scooters and large power tools, can be severe and hard to extinguish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for charging, use and storage.

Reduce your fire risk:
• Use the battery and charger that came with your device. Never use a damaged battery and don't modify, tamper with or build your own battery.
• If you need a replacement battery, contact the original manufacturer or product retailer.
• Charge your batteries away from exit doors in case of fire. Store at room temperature.
• Charge away from soft surfaces like bedding. Store at room temperature.
• Check with your municipality on how to safely dispose of your batteries.
