Registration is now open for our Plants to Plates series this summer!

This food education program is developed by the Ecology Action Centre, taking a plants to plates approach. Children between the ages of 7-10 years old will develop kitchen and food preparation skills paired with garden activities, making connections between how food is grown and how to prepare nutritious, tasty snacks and meals.

For those looking for a ballpark amount, there is a suggested donation amount of $50 for the full 5 day series, however we never want finances to be the reason that someone cannot participate, so this program operates on a pay-what-you-can model - whether that is $50, $30 or $0.

To register, please call 905-885-2626 ext. 280 or email [email protected]

What is Food Waste?
Food waste can happen at all levels of the food supply system. However, almost HALF of ALL food waste happens at home. When food is thrown out as garbage, it ends up in landfills and can produce the greenhouse gas methane. Methane is one of several greenhouse gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect that causes global warming and climate change.

Food that is not eaten also means that the land, soil and water needed to produce the food were wasted. 😔

Most often, food waste happens at home when:

- Food is improperly stored leading to it going bad before it is used
- Preparing too much food, leading to leftovers going bad before they can be eaten
- Shopping impulsively or not planning meals can lead to buying food that is not needed

Around 70% of global freshwater is stored in glaciers and ice sheets, making glaciers essential to the water supply of millions of people.

Yet, these ice formations are rapidly retreating, affecting the water cycle, altering glacier melt, snowmelt, groundwater recharge, and contributing to sea level rise.

On this , let’s protect these vital ecosystems we all depend on.
